I always thought that TWIX was the best chocolate bar...but now I wonder if there is really a better chocolate bar out there. What is truly the best chocolate?

Generally speaking, the BEST chocolate bars are bittersweet in character. Milk chocolate is ghastly because all you taste is sugar -- not chocolate. I'd recommend a Vahlrona or Sharffen-Berger 70% chocolate bar.

It would depend on one's personal taste and preferences.

I might say to myself Mars Bars are the best things ever invented by man..

and then I'd come across a person who would laugh in my face and tell me that Oh Henry is the way to go.

My grocery store linup choice would be a Kit Kat......but I go through phases, I was addicted to Mr Big and Areo for a long time. Hubby just reminded me that during my 1st pregnancy it was M&Ms Peanut..lol

If I am looking for something a little more refined, I want a Toblerone or Ritter Sport Dark.

And when I find one, I go for a Milka bar!!

EWWWWWWWWWW & white chocolait isn't real chocolait anyways.

the 3 that where quoted as the top sellers I agree with are ones I love also, I also have to add the mars dark & almond ones, reeses peanut butter cups, kit kat, 3 muskateers, aero, wunderbar, butterfinger, big turk & the laura secord choco-mint bars as well to some I enjoy at times. Oh henry & mr big are the same thing I prettymuch.

nuts & chocolait are ALWAYS yummy. presidents choice makes some yummy large choco bars, mind ya $4 a bar is exspencive but definatly worth the $.

They have them here too! I've seen them at SDM, Walmart and Metro/Dominion.
They are okay, kind of an acquired taste. They kind of mess with you, because they are sweet and spicey at the same time (not too spicey though, although I can handle spice...so it may differ for others)

Has anyone seen those chocolates at lablaws/RCSS that are dark chocolate encrusted with sea salt? That sounds gross, but interesting....

BTW, CRUNCHIE FTW! I love the crunchiness, then how it all melts in your mouth together!

For me my favourite has always been a Cadbury's Double Decker.

Unfortunately they aren't available in most Canadian stores BUT thankfully you can get them at Sugar Mountain which sells items from various countries. Prior to that there was a store in niagara-on-the-lake which sold them.

The lower deck of this bar is crispy crunchy cereal and the upper deck is a chewy nougatine; all wrapped in milk chocolate.

Kit kats and all variants of kit kats (though I like some more than others)

Original, Dark, Chunky, Peanut Butter

Then the exotic ones: green tea, yogurt, strawberry, orange, mint, white,.. and a tonne more. I want to try the ultra-rare mango one. Arghh need to go to Japan and try all the exotic kit kats.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kit_Kat

Kit Kats are the uncontested king of the chocolate bar world imo. Good balance in sweetness, nice light crispy wafer.. no nasty tooth-clinging stuff. And a tonne of exotics :D

Not specifically products made in UK has a very short shelf life. They usually have an ealier expiry date of many products compared to the ones that are made in NA because the humidity in the climate are much higher compared to NA. If you buy a UK products and bring it to NA, it'll have a longer shelf life.

There is no best chocolate bar, just the one that you like.

Valrhona chocolates

Expensive expensive expensive..

But very rich in texture and flavor.

They produce more "dark chocolates" and specialty stuff, rather than your everyday milk chocolate bars.

Also an expensive ingredient in the semi to professional patisseries..

One of the many brands of supposed "high class chocolatiers" ;)

Course most people "including myself" can't really tell the difference BUT It does have a much deeper taste I find than Lindt's line of stuff

http://www.valrhona.com/indexEn.php?vlang=A#

I like Oh Henry! though I don't eat it very often. Most "regular" bars with peanuts or almonds are my preferences. Snickers, Cadbury Fruit & Nut or Hazlenut/Whole Nut, are all good.

There used to be this Lindt bar back in the day called "Alba" but it hasn't been available (in Canada anyway) in ages :( And mentioning Lindt I pretty much love anything they make apart from the dark chocolate (I hate dark chocolate!); I also dislike Lindor (which isn't "real" Lindt IMO) but those are not "bar" chocolate anyway.

I tried a Caramilk a while ago and they appear to be using different "modified milk ingredients" than they did ~10 years ago. They have a really awful taste. I noticed the same taste in another "caramel" filled bar made by Hershey as well so it must be a trend.

Poulain is my goto brand for dark chocolate. Most Valhronas are too fruity.

Which Loblaws? I haven't seen them on shelves since June.

College Square in Ottawa.

I haven't bought any for a few months, but I'm certain I've seen them recently. They're in the cookie aisle grouped with a bunch of other import cookies.

I looked several times in August and September for them at College Square and never saw them. I've also looked at the Barrhaven location for them and still no luck.

What about the bars that used to be? You know, I'm talking back in the '70's. One of my favourites growing up had to be from Lowneys. It was called 'Nut Milk'. Nothing fancy, not double chocolate or triple peanut butter...just simply Peanuts and Chocolate. It was a long thin bar in a brown wrapper with white writing. Who remembers this one and what other ones can we think of? :-0

I've always liked Mars bars. I eat the chocolate coating first (kind of chip it off with my teeth) and then the rest.
I remember eating candy when I was young; I was at a movie theatre and was eating McIntosh toffee and one of my teeth was pulled out.
When I ate it, I would form it to the roof of my mouth and take it out and look at it! I guess I had seen my folks with their dentures and was trying to make one out of toffee.

This is not regarding the chocolate bar, but I've read that nut milk (for example, almond milk) is pretty good for you.
