China needs to dump melamine...
I actually contacted SupplementsCanada about this, and the response was:
Hi there,
I have just phoned EAS' head office in Canada and the US, and they assured me that there protein is made in North America and has no link to China. If it had any link at all, we would have pulled it from our inventory immediately.
So good, I'm thinking about buying this, but its gonna be hard to go from the mixability of Cytosport to this stuff (you NEED a blender, I've heard).

This trueprotein product has no flavor so you need to buy flavor packs, otherwise it tastes like crap even when mixed with other food. To compare it, you need to consider this:
25 lbs: 130$
8 flavor packs (25 lbs of whey = 8 flavor packs): 36$
Shipping: 45$
Tax: 13$
Total: 224$ US = 271$ CAD
Ratio: 10.84$ / lb
EAS
15 lbs: 118$
Flavor: included
Shipping: 0$
Tax: 6$
Total: 124$
Ratio: 8.27$ / lb
Don't get me wrong, I've bought over 20 lbs of cold-filtrated whey from trueprotein and love them... But you need to consider the true facts when comparing prices.

I ordered from TrueProtein as well. It's not as good a deal as it seems; like you said. Plus I didn't really like the taste unless you purchased their preflavoured "high quality" flavours.
Right now I am using Hemp Protein. Supposed to be better for you and easier to digest, less bloating. I don't know if that's true or not, but I can hardly wait to get back to some EAS! Hemp only tastes good for so long.

Just received my order of 3 X 5lbs. It came with a free t-shirt and some sample protein bars.
I just wanna say that the protein mixes very easily (much easier than Muscle Milk) I would say its on par with ON's mixibility. The chocolate tastes 'light'; not too sweet and no real aftertaste, which is good since i have 15lbs of it.
I'd definitely buy it again!

Deal still seems to be up (the link still works anyways, cant seem to find the deal through the homepage). I checked bodybuilding.com and for the same stuff its 50 dollars per 5lbs (and in usd?) compared to 40 per 5lbs, not to mention the shipping costs. While I havn't looked to much into those other sites, if you are ordering in USD and have to pay shipping, the deals would have to be way cheaper to make it worthwhile

you don't want to solely rely on whey to bulk up. you simply need to take in more food, thats it. just eat, eat, eat, every 2-3 hours and use the whey in addition to your meals.

Well said. To bulk up, all you have to do is eat more. Make sure you get enough protein, but that can be easily done from whole food sources. Calories in > Calories Burned, it's a numbers game. Hitting the gym to make sure you put on muscle not fat is always a good idea too :!:

I'm still using Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey.
I compared the labels of ON and Trueprotein and they are not far apart.
IMO, ON is the best bang for your buck qualtiy whey protein.
ON also mixes very well with water.
Taste is pretty good, but if you mix with milk, (I can't drink too much milk), it tastes very good.
You have to ensure that the powder is added into the water and not add water to the powder. Mix with a good shaker cup. Try GNC for the red shaker cup. I think that it is under $5 and hasn't leaked yet on me.
I normally buy from www.SVNCANADA.com in BC. They have great prices.
They also did increase ON from $49.99 to $54.95 and it is no longer available for volume discount.
Most companies will give you free shipping after $100
Also, they only charge you GST, no PST has ever been charged to me yet.

Hi there,
Thank you very much for sending this to us. I have never heard of worms in Protein bars and we sell a lot of them. I have looked through our records and it does not look like this person ordered the bars from us as we would have remembered something this crazy, and we would have taken this to the EAS Company.
The EAS bars that we sell are very fresh as they are one of our top selling products and we are constantly bringing in new stock. Thanks again for bringing this information to our attention.

If you want to know why the price of supplements has gone up all you have to do is look at the Canadian dollar.....it has gone into the toilet. It is down 20 cents from where it was in September. So the cost of supplements that come from the states ends up being 20% higher. If the ON was 54.99 and now is 64.99 that is only an increase of $10 which is less than 20% so they are actually making less money now then they were before.
I used to shop online in the states for stuff but with shipping prices and the exchange rate at what it is now it doesn't save you any money.

Of course the dollar does have something to do with it - but I can guarentee you that the main reason is the cost of raw materials. The solid products are the ones with expensive raw materials, not crappy flavour fillers.
You guys really have to find the world outside of ON Whey - yeah it tastes good, but its really not "the best in the entire world!"

only reason supps from the u.s. ended up costing me more were mainly because of the high shipping rates. now i just ship within the u.s. and drive across to pick it up myself. even with the low canadian dollar you save quite a bit and waaay more supps are available to you. canadian sites don't even carry brands like scivation, xf etc.. scivation/ultra peptide whey is top notch and only goes for about 60 bucks for 10lbs, you can't go wrong.

I strongly prefer the taste of unflavoured whey. I can add whatever I want to it and it'll taste just fine. I have bottles of splenda and choco/vanilla powder laying around anyway if I wanted to taste generic whey.
It's much more fun to make your own flavoures though. I like mixing mine with fruit juice, maltose/maltodextrin, or any number of things I want to add that would taste downright awful if it already had flavour mixed it.
I actually have bottles and bottles of Substance WPI laying around unused for that reason. Once you tried the versitility of unflavoured whey, you'll never want to go back.

You get what you pay for. A lot of the cheaper stuff aren't as refined, and thus have a lot more lactose and misc other guck in it. Protein purity ranges from 70% to 80% generally.
But then you don't always get what you pay for. Some (most) stores have it way overpriced, so do shop around. Optimum Nutrition is a well regarded company that have good tasting and inexpensive whey that is universally available.

I second that. Unflavoured means you don't have to worry about getting tired of a flavour. I personally find that the flavoured protein shakes taste much too sweet, so I prefer mixing my own. It's also nice to be able to control what I put into my shakes.
Orange Juice with a splash of vanilla + whey tastes kind of like a creamsicle.
Add a banana for more sweetness.
Add oats ground in a (clean) coffee grinder for carbs.
Blend in blender or with immersion blender.
Milk + water + chocolate milk mix + whey = great chocolate protein shake
Add a banana for carbs/sweetness
Add oats for more carbs.
Add peanut butter for more calories
Blend in blender or with immersion blender.
And you've got a great 'weight gainer' shake.
Last one (for those who like Matcha green tea)
Apple juice + whey + banana + matcha = yummy grean tea protein smoothie.
A trick I use is to mix using an immersion blender and a martini shaker. The stainless steel shaker cleans up real easy, and is the perfect fit for the immersion blender.

ya i saw that part. ultimately it is up to the consumer to properly research themselves on a product before purchasing and using it though.
it is usually unknown companies with prop blends that are ******** though. just buy some reputable companies and you got nothing to worry about, simple.

its a good deal, and its real. i am pretty sick of the eas stuff now though, on the last tub with about a quarter left now. i been mixing it with the scivation stuff lately because im so sick of it. once you try better tasting blends like scivation/xf ultra peptide it is hard to go back to something else.

I've had 5 year old whey before and it was fine. As long as you store it in a cool dry place and moisture doesn't get in, it'll last a long time.
The date on the protein supplements don't indicate they have gone bad. What they tell you is that by that date that protein is no longer 100% effective as some of it has denatured. So say the label says you get 23g protein per 30g scoop, this would no longer be accurate as some has denatured (broken down). It would be perfectly fine to take just you might wanna throw a bit more in the shakes, just a bit nothing crazy (a few grams), to make up for the amount that denatured (broke down). The longer past the 'expiration' date you go the more denatured it will become, 5 years past the date is a long time, I wouldn't go past 1.5years as after that who knows what percentage is actually denatured or not (don't know how much usable protein you're taking). The majority of medicines work the same way, although there are some (like tetracycline) which actually should not be taken after the expiration date.

I used to strength train for awhile, I'm starting back in a few weeks figure I'm going to need to stock up on Surge, ON Whey, Animal Pak, fish oil...
By the way regarding EAS I bought this deal in store awhile back. Wish I never did. I tried all three flavours, Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry. Choc and strawberry were decent, but you have to hold your breath while chugging vanilla. And the mixability was okay but you will get some clumps unless 1. you use a blender or 2. you are an EAS representative planted here to tell us otherwise.
The real problem though, for me at least, was the gas. Much bloating and cramps with this blend...EAS uses less isolate in their mix I suppose, and they do not add lactase to their whey like ON, so if you're lactose intolerant (yeah I'm looking at you Asians) I would personally avoid this brand. If you have no problem drinking regular milk and never experience bloating problems with whey AND don't mind the taste (I'd test it in-store) then go ahead give this deal a shot.
First time whey buyers I still have to recommend ON all around, you can't really go wrong with this brand in terms of taste/effectiveness....but MAN OH MAN the prices went up.
I just went onto supplementscanada.com out of curiosity this morning, 65$ for 5lb tub brah'...Any toronto gymgoers get this stuff @ cheaper places? I've never shopped bb.com, but that 30$ shipping Canada Post doesn't look pretty, and going to the states isn't an option for me.

I shop at svncanada.com for my stuff.
https://www.svncanada.com/list-optimum-nutrition.php
Their prices are pretty decent, and their ON products are cheaper than every other Canadian place I've run into so far. a 5lb tub is $65.65 shipped to your house (and it used to be about $58 dollars, but they raised the price a bit) Anything over a $100 they give you free shipping, a discount and some freebies.
Shipping from them took 5-6 days to get to me in Ottawa. I've ordered stuff from them 3 times already and they are definitely secure and reliable (only problem I had was one of the seals on one of the 5 LB tub ON whey protein I ordered was partially peeled, but I didn't really care)
hope that helps.

ON double chocolate is not that good imo. Edible, but not that good.
Bio-X extreme whey protein is the best thing I've ever tasted in chocolate flavor.
mix 2 scoops with water and it tastes exactly like chocolate milk.
ON banana cream flavour is my favorite though. 2 scoops mixed with water tastes like Banana milk, except it's not as creamy.

You really think so? I put 1 scoop and a half of ON chocolate in my shakes with a banana, skimmilk and some frozen straw/peaches and it is better than most milkshakes you can buy at ice cream shops IMO. I rarely have protein without any fruit, but I know that I liek the taste of it with my cereal or even pudding. They have refined their chocolate flavour, at least the bag I got from bodybuilding.com store said it was new and improved. My bro bought 10lbs of EAS protein vanilla and he has to put coco powder in it cause it tastes so bad.

well if you mixing it with a banana and other frozen fruits it's going to taste better with any kind of protein powder you choose. I don't know about the EAS vanilla, but the chocolate imo is better than the ON chocolate if you only going to mix it with water or milk.

Why do you guys mix your whey protein with Milk?
Whey is a protein that is digested very quickly. Usually between 30-60 minutes. That's why it's a Protein that is taken before/after workouts, where you need that protein to to be released quickly.
Mixing it with milk slows down the digestion by a few hours, hence it defeats the purpose.
your better off mixing a Casien protein or an egg protein with your milk.

The price of casein protein/egg protein is much more expensive then regular whey. You would also want to add some carbs. to your protein PWO to help replenish your muscles and avoid a catabolic effect. The best carbohydrate product on the market to my knowledge right now is waxy maize starch. You would take that immediately after your workouts. Then 10-15 minutes later you would take your shake. Although WMS is quite pricey, an alternate quick absorbing carb. you can take that is less expensive would be dextrose or maltodrexin.

Is there an effective time period for the drink itself? Will it have the same effect if I mixed the drink and had it 5 minutes later (pre workout) and if I mixed it 2 hours ahead and used it after the workout?
I hope that came out right. I'm tired as hell right now haha..

Whey protein is digested quickly within 20-30min of taking it. A study out of Penn State proved that having a post work out shake immediately after your workout will help you gain more muscle mass than if you don't. They also found that if you sandwich your workouts with a pre and post shake you will gain even more. So it would be best to have a shake say 30grams of protein 20min before your workout.
And then immediately after your workout have a post workout shake (50grams protein + dextrose/maltodextrose (or gatorade powder)). Slam down half the shake right away and then sip on the rest for the next 20min or so. By slamming the first half the dex/malto cause your blood sugar to spike allowing the protein to get to your muscles more quickly. The sipping on the shake for the next 20min allows you to sustain a higher level of blood sugar (insulin levels).
As for casein protein, it is best taking right before going to bed. Since it takes several hours to digest it is an excellent way for your body to have a constant stream of protein while you sleep to digest rather than breaking down your muscles. I can't remember which University study proved how beneficial it was in comparison to not taking it.

Gotcha.
Is there a difference in the shake if I make it 5 minutes before drinking or 2 hours in advance?
The jiu jitsu gym I train at doesn't have a water machine and we need to buy bottles of water so I'm thinking of making the shake at home and taking it after my workout ~2 hours later. Will it be just as effective?

If you can bring water with you will be better personally I would not leave a shake for 2 hours as protein in the liquid form is an extremely fertile environment for airborne bacteria growth. if you have to do this way, having it in the fridge for the 2 hours would be the best of both worlds, or just bring a water bottle with you

I have to respectively disagree. You aren't treating it like medicine. Your body breaks this stuff into its component parts anyway, so it makes no difference whether it's denatured or not. Ok, it does a little. But cooked eggs is darn near 100% denatured protein, and people do just fine skipping its raw counterparts.
Your body breaks down the protein and builds it back into protein that your body can use, like muscle. heck, the high end blends even come with enzymes to help you break it down faster.
For whey, i'm pretty much just worried about safety. Stuff like bacteria/fungal growth.
