Hi guys, I just wanted to let everyone know that if you're looking for a Sony XBR6 Bestbuy is willing to negotiate down to a price of $2800 for the 52XBR6. I picked one up for my Dad today. Their retail price is set at $3900.
All I did was go in and mention that the Sony Store was selling it for $3200 and they were willing to offer $3000 (which they were), and then ask if they would be willing to do $2800. He checked with the manager and agreed.
As a side note, he did mention that their cost on the sony tv's has dropped as much as $300 for some models the past week. A sign of further drops of come??? who knows
YMMV
The price at SonyStyle.ca has been reduced to $3200.

This is a good TV to compare with the 52A750 lcd by Samsung... However, I'd still prefer the 750 it can be had for $3k msot places and probably haggled down to $28

Yeah, honestly it was a toss up between the W, XBR6 and the Samsung 630M which is the Semi Matt finish. They were all so close sometimes it was hard to tell the difference. The shiny coating on the 650 and 750 wasn't an option because he has a large window right to the right of the tv and reflections would be too much to handle. That's why I considered the 630M.
Overall, I did notice that the colours and viewing angles were slightly superior on the Samsungs but the Sonys shined when it comes to image processing such as the Motion Flow. The Samsungs contained far more artifacting when it comes to this feature compared to the XBR/W.
So in the end, since my Dad has been a Sony person for years I figured it was probably best to go with the XBR6 since he would be happiest with that model.
I'll post the receipt later for anyone needing it.

That's a pretty good deal. I wonder if there's any price drops on the XBR8s yet.

I got my XBR4 for $1500 + tax of course, but only GST :=D in May. Tv is still selling for $1700 + tax.

For about $2800 you can get a 58" Samsung PN58A550/PN58A650 which is a superior TV.

That's the US$ price. In Canada, it's $5000 for the 46" and $7000 for the 55".

Yeah, these puppies will come down soon enough with the recession and all. I forget the model series but one should compare the XBR8 to the Samsung model that uses similar technology in the LCD backlighting. I read in one of those home theater mags that the blacks and picture are second only to the the top plasma in the market. No mention of the XBR8.
Also to OP, I am very surprised they gave you the price you mention without having to buy other items with it. Warranty? Cables? What else did you buy. If nothing, then we really need a scan to substantiate your purcahse price.

That's the US$ price. In Canada, it's $5000 for the 46" and $7000 for the 55".Exactly. I got a chance to check out both the 46" and 55" in store over the weekend. Picture quality was nice and the advantage of LED backlit apparent. Since the width of the glass between the LCD frame and speakers appeared to be the same on both model, the 55" looked proportionately better.
I know the XBR8 supposedly doesn't beat out the Kuro Elite according to the CNET review (http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/sony-bravia-kdl-55xbr8/4505-6482_7-33060615.html) but at least one guy likes it. (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14912673) Yes, it's crazy expensive (though not as crazy as this one @ $20k (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665532063) or last year's model @ $30k) but it's damn nice.
Sorry to go off topic.
I haven't paid much attention to the XBR6 though at $2800, I may have look at it this weekend. I've been in the market for a 52" for a while but haven't been able to pull the trigger just yet. I was close to grabbing an XBR4 but didn't want to deal with any of the clouding issue people have talked about. If I were to get an XBR6, I'd keep thinking it was just a stopgap for an LED backlit one.

I have the 52XBR4, and have no clouding or flashlights at all. What i do have is significant motion blur, especially with hockey. Red or black uniforms against white ice give this tv fits! I'd check out a hockey game before I'd purchase the XBR6 or 7 or 8 for that matter.

I guess that would mean we should burn a hockey game onto DVD and bring it with us in store. Just my luck, I recorded the Canucks versus Nashville game the other night.

That's a good strategy. The effect is far worse on SD than on HD. Pay special attention when the player goes behind the glass because that exacerbates the problem.

So this 52XBR6 @ $2800 is a better TV for picture quality, etc. than a Pioneer Plasma 5020FD at $3000?

As requested. I had to remove some personal info for obvious reasons. Best of luck with the price matching :)

The W4100 is equivalent or better than the XBR4.

We needed a stand for the tv but the price the sales guy quoted was before we agreed to buy a stand so it wasn't part of the $2800 negotiation. We were offered cables, etc but obviously passed.
It was honestly relatively hassle free. Bestbuy's business must be suffering right now.

Well to put it quite simply, the picture quality is amazing. I can't believe how dark the blacks are considering this an lcd and not a plasma. Completely worth the little bit of extra money. :)
Did anyone have any luck picking one up?

I went to Sony Store this past week - where I was offered the XBR6 for 2400 + TAX. I think this is a GREAT price for this TV prior to Boxing Day.
I am STRONGLY considering buying this - the only thing holding me back is evaluating this against the Pioneer 5020 - which in current market is almost 700 more than the XBR6!
But be warned, YMMV!

That's a nice deal you got there. I remember just last year, the XBR4 were selling for around $2400. And the TV was only 46" big.
Sorry for threadjack, but does anyone know a good site to compare TVs? I thought the XBR series was the top of the line for Sony. Didn't know the XBR4 could possibly be bested by W4100.

This may be old news but the 5020FD is $3,000 at Visions.

I was there on Sunday and a salesperson offered this to me for $2,800 and a Panasonic 800Z for $2,400. I don't have a written quote or anything but it looks like it can go this low, so I'm guessing prices everywhere will reach this in the next little while.

Has anyone picked one of these up for less than $2800 in the Vancouver area in recent days? If so, where did you go?
$2800 was the consistent lowest price that each store would offer today. Everyone says they will price match but you need something to price match with.
Additionally I was told by FS and Sony that prices will be going up 20 plus % in January due to the CDN/US exchange. We'll see. And I should, of course buy now.
Any price updates would be appreciated.

fs and bb doesn't even have any xbr series tv on their sites (@ over 50") .. just the v4100, w4100@ FS, and the S/V/W4100 @ BB. Also, the pioneer 5020 is now 2999 at FS but note that there was a better sale where it was 2599 just a while back.
