No this one doesn't have BT. Even the BT on the 265 hasn't been given stellar reviews anyway. You might as well use a BT headset instead, which is cheaper and usually gives better result.

Exactly and I agree!! how do they expect us to use our GPSwhile we're texting on our BLUEBERRIES and drinking our Starbucks GRANDE LatteFrappaMAchhinoCocoabutterrum with extra foam and cinnamon at the same time????????

Very bad move on nuvi's part for not adding that extra bluetooth feature.. shame on them!

I ordered this using the $20 off coupon cuz I want a GPS with TTS. But I saw the newegg (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=656867)thread and got the Garmin C550 instead for $175 after taxes...and that has bluetooth :P

I don't care about Bluetooth. Other than price, what other benefits does the Nuvi 255/StreetPilot 550 have over each other?

The 255 has a faster processor, Hotfix to acquire satellites faster, updated software and user interface, plus the 255 is ultra portable compared to the C550.

Thanks for the info! Now to convince myself that I need to buy the Nuvi 255 because I already own (the now ultra-old) Streetpilot 2610 that I paid $800 for, back when most of you people never even knew what GPS was! ;)

I just bought the 255 from newegg.ca

Free shipping
There is a $70 off promo code available on main product page.

Link (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16858108323)

for me it was $188 all in. (Cdn $) $15 cheaper than staples even with coupon. I guess I will be returning the Staples one I just bought this morning.

It is still illegal to use the GPS bluetooth function, since you have to touch the screen to dial or answer a call. Any driver touching a GPS screen while the car is moving is breaking the law, regardless of whether you are accessing GPS functions or phone functions.

h00ch
Nov 6th, 2008, 03:47 PM
Isn't the law just for handheld devices? If it's mounted, it ain't handheld anymore. (same as changing the channel on your radio or adjusting the heat)

Doesnt Staples pricematch?? If im not mistaken they offer a 110% guarantee which makes it cheaper than newegg

Staples would most likely add $15 to the Newegg price for next day shipping.

the promo code for the 255 was PROGPSCA70

Looks like the Staples with the coupon is still good

Does anyone have any links for a cheap, compact case for this?

Also, check out this site...

www.poifriend.com

So far it's the best POI website I've found. Has a number of "official" POI groups by Petro Canada, Tim Hortons, RBC, etc...

Here's some useful POI's I've loaded on to my 255 so far:
Algonquin Park
Bruce Trail Parking
Canadian Tire Stores
LCBO Stores
Petro-Canada Gas Stations
RBC ATMs - Canada
RBC Branches - Canada
Red Light Cameras
Speed Traps
The Beer Store
Tim Hortons - Canada and USA
Toronto Parking

I don't like how when you set up a certain waypoint like a mall. It expects me to drive right up to the front entrace or one entrance of the mall only. If I try to go park on the other side of the mall. It keeps recalculating routes. I also don't like how it doesn't mention your next turn too frequently.

What's the tomtom like? I think it's the opposite like that.

Every GPS is like that. They don't know parking lots, they will only take you to the street address of the mall. If you need a GPS to help you navigate a mall parking lot, perhaps you should stick to taking the bus. ;)

I found a couple of cases at TigerDirect that look like they should fit this GPS. Has anyone seen any others? (other than on eBay) Best Buy has a couple of Garmin ones, but they are the sleeve type and leav one end of the GPS exposed and could also fall out.
