let's say I have a website name mobileautopainting.com. My business card will have mobileautopainting.com, my own name and phone number on it. etc...
Now, I want to do business as a sole proprietorship, is it mandatory for me to register my business as Mobileautopaint or can I be fit in the "doing business under my own name" category, so I won't have to register for the (mobileautopainting) business name.
The reason is that I want to bill my customers in my own name so I don't have to open a business account.

I don't think the question has been resolved yet.
Register your business name. As a sole proprietor with a business name you can take cheques in your personal name.
I don't get the whole avoiding gst # thing . Why do that? What if you happen to make $31000?
