i got a psp yesterday, and i'm looking for some games to get..
i'm mostly in to sports, but i already have nba 08, fifa 08, and mlb the show 08 on it.. so i have my bases covered in terms of sports.
what other games are good? i'm pretty open minded when it comes to the genre, but i'd like to avoid the rpgs.. i'm so tempted to get final fantasy crisis core but i know from experience that i'm always sucked in to final fantasy graphics and i never actually like playing it.. i also want to try god of war but i'm not sure.
if anybody could recommend any games, other than sports and rpgs (or unless you have a VERY good review of a game in those two genres) that would be great.
edit: also, can anybody comment on patapon?

Patapon is a rent. Tried it on a friend's PSP before I had one and while it was a neat concept, it got boring fast. I couldn't get past the second level it was so boring. Try Locoroco. It's similar, and very fun and a good time waster.
If you like music games, get DJ Portable Max (a new one came out I think? Classiqui?). It's like Stepmania, but not really. The only bemani-esque music game for the portable consoles this generation.
I enjoyed Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 for PSP, but the controls suck. It's like playing southpaw: analog stick makes you look around, face buttons make you move. Really confusing and hard to aim, but it's a solid experience.
If you have a modded PSP like myself, be sure to check out Cave Story. It's an indie game (not released in stores, just a homebrew game). It's probably the best game in terms of platformers on the market right now.
PS: Didn't you break your friend's PSP by mistake and was scrambling around RFD looking for a replacement/repair service?

thanks for the quick replies guys.
winning eleven i think i've had enough.. i used to play it all the time when i went over to my friend's house lol.
i've tried DJ portable max on my friend's psp, though it had some problems with it.. for some reason after a couple of songs it would start messing up and reaching all these high notes.. but it was pretty fun.
patapon and locoroco both look interesting to me, i actually just looked locoroco up on gamespot and it got some decent reviews.

DJ Max Portable is quite good. I'm not very good but the music is nice and engaging.
God of War. If you played the PS2 version, you know all about this one.
Crisis Core for me is like God of War but with the final fantasy thing behind it and the gameplay is not on the same level. Its still good. I'd say rent it because of the price.
Patapon is cheap = buy. Its an amazing game that I found quite difficult and challenging but its a button-rhythm game so you gotta be good with that.
Loco-Roco = must buy. My friends thought I was gay when I played it and they heard the whacked out music. Next thing you know, I challenge them to play and I can't pry the PSP out of their hands.
For RPGs, I loved Final Fantasy Tactics and Jeanne D'arc.
Other games that come to mind are MGS: Portable Ops, Wipeout Series, Twisted Metal, Megaman Powered Up, Lumines 1 (2 is ok), Syphon Filter Series (best shooter on PSP), Killzone Liberation (surprise game for me),

+1
People who care about supporting the hard working developers who worked on these games.
I would say these are my top 5 PSP games: God of War (duh), Lumines, Patapon, Loco Roco and Castlevania.
