I noticed that there are chestnuts in the stores lately. I would like to know how you would prepare yours. I keep hearing different versions of what to do. Some say they boil them. Some say better if cooked on top of the stove in one of the frying pans with holes in it. Some do them in the oven. How do you cook them?

Ok idea, but I hated my gas bbq so much I sold it for half what I paid. A dozen chestnuts is not worth the time to heat the coals in the Webber kettle.

I put a half dozen in the oven tonight at 350 for 40 mins in a frying pan. They were good but dry and the brown layer under the shell was hard to remove making them somewhat bitter. I do know about slitting them and have a tool that does that.

Hi. My name is Dave and I am a kitchen gadget junkie. I admit I have the frypan with the holes in it but it is up north due to cooking them over an open campfire last weekend.

+1 that's how I make them as well. I usually make a dozen or so when I am grilling on the weekends now; about half of them make it back to the house.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.

Clean off chestnuts.

Use a sharp paring knife to cut an X into one side of each chestnut, or prick chestnuts with a fork to allow steam to escape.

Arrange chestnuts on a baking sheet or in a shallow pan, with the cut or pricked sides up.

Roast in oven for 15 to 25 minutes, or until chestnuts are tender and easy to peel.

Peel the nuts when they are cool enough to handle, and enjoy.

Delish!!!!
