I've been living Breyers now has Palm Oil and Gum in it.

Nasty!

After doing a little digging it looks like ever since Unilever took over it's been all down hill from there.

This has been going on since 2001

How is Palm Oil and Gum not "natural" ?

I bought some of that flavored ice cream that No Frill's had on sale a little while back for a buck and it was made by Bryer's. Even though it didn't tote itself as being natural it still tasted like crap and I thought with all the sugar and chemicals it would surely taste good.

Now I know why it was on sale for a buck and I have 2 tubs still left in the freezer. Maybe the raccoons would like it.

You can usually tell if food products are made from natural ingredients by the price. If it is damn expensive there is a reason why.

Still waiting for someone to explain how Palm Oil is not a natural ingredient.... has there been some revelation that palm trees were genetically engineered?

You have to be very careful when buying "Ice Cream" nowadays. Most are actually now called Frozen Desert as opposed to Ice Cream. Read your cartons. I'm not sure what disallows something from being called Ice Cream but it often is the cheaper stuff is Frozen Desert.

They do like Ginger Snap cookies - someone left some here, and I stuck them outside - and they were gone, they also like Chinese Fortune Cookies too - my theory is - you can feed them leftovers or they can tip over your garbage and make a mess - I prefer the latter.:cheesygri

I think by 'natural', he means what you would normally expect to find in premium ice cream...cream or milk, sugar and fruit, (or whatever flavour)... no added thickeners, stabilizers or oils, etc, even natural ones.

Anyone also notice they are also no longer 2L? The ones I've been getting are only 1.6L. So tricky!

palm is natural...so is my urine!

I expect it to have quality natural ingredients. Who wants oil in their ice cream?

extra oil plz..more gum....gum makes it creamer you know ;-)

I haven't bought any Breyers after they replaced
their all natural brand with their double churned
"naturally favored" brand 2-3 years ago.

Their defunct all natural brand used all natural
ingredients; milk, cream, sugar and whatever
favor/fruit. I guess there was no enough profit
for them. Haagan Daz is the only one left.

Know why they double churn their "ice cream".
To get more air in them. All other "ice cream"
other than Haagan Daz are nothing more than
sugar and chemical fillers. Read the ingredient
and you will find more chemical that you can
imagine.

Breyer's is junk.

Its getting harder all the time to find decent ice cream other than Haagen Dazs (for now anyway) and those made by smaller dairies.

If you don't think Haagen Dazs is in jeopardy, look at what has happened to Nestle chocolate products. The quality has gotten lower and lower and many of them don't even use cocoa butter or real chocolate anymore. Nestle makes Haagen Dazs.

I stopped buying Breyers ever since they started making it double churned. It is not creamier. It's grosser! The texture is all wrong. It doesn't scoop out nicely and gets all gooey!

Same thing for Tropicana OJ. There is now a 2.7L that
fits in between the 1.8L and 3.8L. I bet most people
who picked up the 2.7L that were on sale for $5 for the past
few weeks didn't even notice the difference. The 3.8L
went on sale for $5 all the time.

A few years ago, I discovered the same thing. The double churned is full of preservatives and additives!!! However, recently at my local supermarket I saw that they do infact sell the Natural Breyers Ice Cream again. It is only in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry only I believe. I would suggest taking a look at the ingredients before purchasing the product. My favourite ice cream still has to be Haagen Dasz because it has pretty much all natural ingredients in there and the texture is so smooth, unfortunately it is damn expensive!!
