XBox 360...Hmm..To Buy or Not to Buy?

Hi guys,
I wanted to get your opinion on the following matter:
I'm thinking about an XBox 360 and modding it to go along with my PS3 & Wii.
Right now I've found someone who's selling a brand new & sealed Arcade 360 + NHL 09 for $200. Now I know that works out to about $80 below retail after taxes, but do u think it's still a good deal? I mean..is it ok to spend that much on an Arcade? I don't care too much about NHL 09 because 1. I have a PS3 & I have NHL 09 on that. 2. If I mod it, then I can just get 09 anyways.

So, what do u think I should do? Get this Arcade or not? Should I even get a 360 right now or is it better to wait?? Is it worth it to buy a Premium or an Elite? If u think I should get one of the 2 higher models, where can I get the BEST BEST deal on a BRAND NEW one?

If your answer is yes to me buying a 360 in general, what do u think about modding it? Is it a waste of my brand new console? I don't think it's right to mod it, but I can't afford to buy games for both the 360 & my PS3 (& that's excluding my Wii!!!) If u think I should, who would do it? Right now I live in Langley, BC so I'd prefer someone local as I don't always have transportation.

All in all, I want to know what everybody thinks about this...plz let me know...

Be very careful. I hear that the newer ones have a different drive that makes it unmoddable without having to use a risker method. There was a huge post about it when the Pro 20GB was being sold at a reduced price. Look it up online, it has to be a certain drive.

The arcade isn't a deal since you will have to buy a HDD if you want to use some of the new features they are introducing, storing demos etc. That adds like 60$ or more on top of the Arcade price.

Besides that, I think the 360 has some interesting titles that a gamer shouldn't miss out on but its really up to you if you want to spend that much on it.

That's a great point. I don't know much about modding, so I definitely need to look into that.

You can get the 20gb hard drive for $20 from the Microsoft promotion.

The only reason i can think of getting the 360 is for the exclusive games example Gears of War 2, Fable 2. Other then that most 3rd party games are going multiple platform.

I recently won a free xbox 360 arcade from a contest and M$ has a program where any1 that got a the arcade version can pay a extra 30$ to get and 20gb harddrive and 3 months free of XboxLive Gold.

As for modding the 360, all consoles manufactured after Aug 2008 has the new Lite-On dvd drive, which currently is not mod-able at the moment. The only option is swap the Lite-On Drives for any other. But i suggest you do a lil bit more research b/c its not a simply swapping the drive.

actually its after April 2008, its very hard to find new 360's that dont have a liteon, basically you will need to look for old stock or used ones

think about it. buying 3-4 more ps3 games will buy you a 360 console to mod with an entire library to play that can't be matched by any other platform for free.

Yes it's illegal and wrong.. but if you don't care then the choice is obviously clear.. the 360 will give you most of the best games this gen for free.

Personally I had my 360 for 2 years and love it! I didnt get it modded because I mainly play online and didnt want to risk getting banned with a modded box. But couple days ago my xbox got the RRoD so I gotta send in my 360 to microsoft for repairs (free of course cause its the RRoD problem). But since Gears of War 2 is coming out on friday and I really want to play it on friday online, I decided that i will get a new 360 (arcade version) for $200. Once my other 360 comes back from microsoft repaired, i will get that one modded. So therefore I will be able to play the games I really want to play online on the un-modded box, and all the other games on my modded box. With the prices so low right now, I dont see why not just get one modded :)

P.S. I also have PS3 and WII(modded)

i saw the elite at 377$ today at walmart with a game bundled (indiana jones lego) not the greatest but better then nothing :)......I got mine this summer, had to have it in black to match the rest....
BTW if anyone is around montreal and looking for an elite with a lots number below 810, the one i saw today was lot number 806 :)

This thing is crazzzzzzzzy .. apart from gamin, i use this to network to my pc which is in other room and stream divx and all downloaded movies/episodes .. its crazyyyyy .. i am loving it .. no more tied up to pc to watch ripped vidoes lol
