View Full Version : Suggestions for Steakhouses in Toronto (~$30-40 per person?)

I'm going to dinner with a friend on Saturday evening and am looking for a steakhouse that is about $30 to $40 per person (not including tips or drinks). I prefer for it to be in Toronto (perhaps downtown) and/or Markham and Richmond Hill. I don't want to be driving west to 'sauga or east to Pickering.
No Moxies, Canyon Creek or places like those.
Any suggestions?

I would like suggestions on this as well;
i know i used to love biftheque. I almost cried when they closed.
I think 'baton rouge' may be in your price range, although I may be mistaken on this. there is one in richmond hill, and i believe there are more.
some of my friends have had issue with the wait staff in the past (mostly issues with poor product knowledge, no knowledge of wine/drink menu - the actual speed of service was fine)

Barberian's Steakhouse is around ~$50 before drinks and desert etc.

I know you said you didn't want to travel too far west, but La Castile is in Etobicoke, near Dundas and Bloor if I recall. It's a very nice steakhouse, and consistently the best prime rib and porterhouse I've ever had.

I saw Barberian's in all the other steak threads for best steakhouses, but unfortunately, it's really stretching the budget.
In those threads, I also saw mention of Tulip, and the prices seem to fit my budget more (do I have that right?).
Perhaps Baton Rouge. I'm looking at non-alcoholic drinks, so wine knowledge isn't a big concern.

The Tulip is an option in that price range as well as Baton Rouge but the Tulip is more of a steak place.
I didn't know Le Biftheque closed. :(

Is the Tulip very casual, like going to Kelsey's? That type of atmosphere.
I'd prefer something with the ambbience like Moxies, where it's quite easy to hear one another talk.

Think of it more like a diner. :)
But you can definitely hear your friend(s)/ significant other talk.

The Keg? Some locations aren't bad and are somewhat classy

Keg Mansion is pretty nice.

with that budget I would recommend Carmen's. Just off of Yonge st, but the positive with Carman's compared to other steak houses is that garlic bread, cottage cheese, pickles, olives, potato, coffee and desert are all included.

Please read the OPs full posting.
I would say The Keg too. Their steaks are decent.

Biftheque closed because their staff was ill informed and uninterested in any semblance of service. Or so I assume... We used to go all the time, both Markham and Downtown; but one day it all just went downhill, and fast. Not such a loss.
As for the OP, I too say The Keg. May be trite to say, but they manage to rise above being a chain, and all the staff we have encountered are knowledgeable about all the types of meat; service is friendly and quick; and ambiance is always good. AND they accomodate veggies and allergies - I know it seems funny - which is good if its an 'assorted eater' party.

I don't get why Tulips is so popular... I guess the food is decent, but for that price I expect a little bit of atmosphere... and granted the area is somewhat less ghetto these days - it's still not the greatest part of town.

We ate there a while ago, and we loved it. Didn't get a chance to go eat at Tulip because I had a bunch of errands to run; perhaps I can use this saved up budget for Ruths and Chris the next time I'm in Toronto.
