I'm looking to get a nice set of headphones for playing my Xbox 360 and watching movies. Doesn't matter if they're wired or wireless. Having the option to use the mic for my Xbox would be very nice though, as would surround sound too. What do you guys recommend for around $100?

Friend of mine recently picked up this set of headphones from TigerDirect:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2217094&Sku=T26-1090

He said the sound quality is quite nice, and the added bass is good for most of the games he's fooled around with since picking them up.

The only complaint I've heard from him so far is that some voices crackle on XBOX Live while using the headset online.

Not sure on the quality of the headphones since he's not much of an audiophile but it might be worth checking into if you're looking for an affordable pair of headphones.

I have the Tritton AX360 for over a year now. Very nice set and it's very compatible with most electronics, you can use it on gaming consoles, computers...etc, mic works ok for me. Well worth the price. Sound is clean and immerse you in the gaming environment. Try playing halo 3 with these and you'll see a difference.

I often use my Sennheiser HD555's when gaming. Great all-around headphones:

They go on sale at $139.99 at times if you just keep an eye out.

This may seem like a stupid question, but how would you use headphones...there is no audio jack ... right?

you can use an adaptor, one came with my speakers. It converts the red and white into a green jack.

Dolby Digital all the way :D

I use my Noise cancelling headphones (Audia Technica ATH) tied in to my JVC SU-DH1. Not quite as good as a real 5.1 but it's more than adequate for me.

I agree. Dolby Headphone is pretty good.

I know these are more than $100. If the OP wants to splurge, the Astro Gaming A40 Audio System is very nice.

You can buy them in Toronto when the MLG Pro Circuit visits.

i would also recommend the HD555s or Sony 7506 or V6s ( both are practicalluthe same its just sony repackaged V6s with a new name..v6 are cheaper atm)you can find V6's on amazon for <100$ ...if you want to stretch your buck theres a bunch of more headphones out there...I suggest going to the Head-Fi.Org forums and do a little of your own research.....

Grado SR-60s are also a good choice

but i dunno if your a basshead or not :D

be weary though, if you get a pair of Sexy Cans ..you might need a amp to drive them..do some reasearch if your lookin at the badder boys

I believe the the tritton axpros are being released within the next couple of weeks. I pre-registered and just got an email saying they would invoice me on Nov. 3rd, and I'd get them for 139, instead of 169.

For those of you using non-5.1 headphones...

Are you listening to downmixed stereo audio?
Do you have the headphones attached to a Dolby Headphone receiver?

I assume you'd have to use a separate microphone and have the voice come out of "Use TV speakers".

I say Senn HD555, decent well rounded, and confortable. I mean gaming is relaxing.. you need comfort.

Where did you buy these in Toronto? I hate having to hook up my console via optical as my setup is quite simple and sometimes I too want the isolated privacy of headphones but with that I have to jump through some hoops to get working. Not worth the effort.

I hate the 360's sound over the network. And at night I want to keep the noise down so I don't use any form of communication :)

JVC SU-DH1 is highly recommended for Dolby Headphones. I used to use my Zalmans but it didn't sound all that great IMO so I upgraded.

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to get the 139 pricing, as that was only for those who pre-registered to buy them.
