Hi Everyone,

How are you? Sorry for asking this. There is probably a thread that is pretty similar to my question but I just want to ask your opinion again specifically on Hot Pot Restaurants in GTA. I know iCook for sure and there are two in Richmond Hill. One along Highway 7 (west of Leslie) and there is another one at Leslie Avenue somewhere close to the bowling centre.

Can someone tell me what their names are? and if you have any suggestions on good Hot Pot restaurants, please let me know.

Thank you so much everyone!!!

The last one I went to was Shabu Shabu in Commerce Gate. It was good, place looks clean and most importantly, I didn't get sick afterwards.

+1 for Kam Toa, they have a great selection.

I was there one night w/ family. Their restaurant itself is full, so the hostess lead us out of the restaurant, walked few stores down to a western style diner. They have the butane range set up on every table. It is odd to have hotpot at this setting. Regardless, the food was good and price is very competitive. 14ish /person.

I realize, this Kam Toa took over a few closed down restaurant and rented a few restaurant in the mall to run its business. SMART;)

That depends on where you sit. If you sit inside the restaurant itself, orders come quicker. Elsewhere, they have to walk thru those inside paths to get the plate to you;)

I like the fried rice that comes with the dinner at Kam Toa :P

Yeah service can be slow at times because it's busy but it's worth it.

fried rice only available in summer, unless you're talking about the fried sticky rice..

it's my favorite joint.. i go there almost every week to get my hot pot fix.. cheaper than eating at home..

the beef there is of high quality.. the balls are freshly made as well...

oh.. and although the dessert is crap, it's free..

There's a new place at where K-Box used to be, on Hwy 7, just east of Leslie, infront of Sheridan Parkway, it's called 100 Degrees.
When I went it was $18.99 per person, and they seem to have alot of selection, more seafood than other places. The food was great, their beef was nice and fatty, and tasted so good. I'd definitely recommend it.

Kam Tao is pretty good. The only problem I've ever had was that (once) there were little tiny snails in the watercress. We told the manager. His reaction was "Yeah! we washed the veggies three times and they're still there!".

Dow's Noodle probably has the best variety and service. But, I hated how they nickel-and-dimed you (on drinks) and required constant reminders for re-orders.

The idea of iCook is good (get the food yourself). The execution sucks because of the set-up. You can easily spend at least 30min in line, out of your 90 minute "limit", getting food from that crowded busy corner in the restaurant.

Here's a question...

Does anyone know whether ownership has changed over at Kam Toa. I haven't been there in over a year, but was there twice recently and noticed that the owner was absent. (Although, he could have been in Hong Kong for a holiday.)

My other reason for asking this questions is that over the past year, the menu has changed. Does anyone know where I can buy what they used to call..."fired tofu"?

Essentially it was like a deep fried tofu puff which when placed in the soup became oh so yummo.

Anyways...+1 to Kam Toa and look forward to trying "Made In China".

In regards to the new restaurant, is it owned by the same people who own the Korean BBQ Grill chain?
