For those who think it's a fake: The patent application can be seen here

http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220080261693%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20080261693&RS=DN/20080261693

As per that rumour, it uses PSEye and ultrasonic stuff for full tracking (in tandem also with body/head/face tracking).
I see nothing but fail if they try to include this with the ps3 so late in the generation..

Pretty much a ripoff of the Wiimote, but the face tracking is pretty neat. It uses a camera so it's kind of innovative.

That joystick/trackball thing looks ridiculous, but it'd be interesting to see how it works.

Always welcome new approaches to game design. Blatant rip off but what else is new. Success comes with envy.

The Wiimote is partially an infrared camera that looks at the infrared LED's on the Wii tracking bar.

Hey at least the PS3 has decent graphics, compared to the mediocre graphics on the Wii.

I don't mind as long as they modify it so that the controller can reform the shape of the Dualshock in some form. It would be better this way to provide both options for users, unlike the Wii which in most games forces you to play with waggle functions.

This was in their plans for awhile but its just been sent in for patents. Looks neat and will probably work much better than the current status of the wiimote.

I doubt its anywhere near release especially for PS3 but you can bet it might be something you see for PS4.

360 had a Wii-mote ripoff but the rumors on that one has died down as well.

I believe its been confirmed that Nintendo will be sticking to some form of the wiimote for its next console for obvious reasons.

Man that looks ugly and bulky. Knowing them, they'll make you buy another controller just to have it used like a dualshock controller, and faceplates sold separately, eh?

thank you for that important contribution captain obvious..the PC always owns everything.. :-/

I think it has multiple sensors in FIG 14B to triangulate wrist movement at all angles? I'm too lazy to read the spec sheet on the patent.

from the web:

The sphere (bulb) on the end would contain a retro-reflective area, it's own light source, and would change color to assist in capturing image data.

just another patent being laid as just in case groundwork. if we were to believe all the patents that are placed, we'd have a psp phone already and a frisbee looking wiimote.

frisbee wiimote would cause a huge amount of accidents. Nintendo had a whole bunch of ideas before they came to choose the Wiimote.

I think thats what its for as well, but only people without lives would read the spec sheet for the patent.
