I checked the BB and FS website and they only advertise the 80gb. I plan on buying a 40gb ps3 next week, is Sony slowly letting the 40gb die? Should I be buying from a less popular place ASAP like at Zellers or something?

The 40gbs were 299, weren't they? Or maybe it was wishful thinking. In any case, I still want a cheap PS3 from a retailer and don't care how much hard drive space there is. I could've sworn I saw an RFD thread here somewhere with BBV selling a ps3 for 299 or a bundle with a game or sixaxis for 350 or something.

that Blockbuster deal with 40GB priced at 299.99 is long gone, and once they ran out, they stock the 80GB.
The 80GB is the new standard at 399.99, and in November they are going to release a 160GB with Uncharted and Pain voucher for 499.99. Its basically the 40GB/80GB only a bigger hard drive.
I think the reason they removed the 40GB is because the hard drive is probably the cheapest cost for Sony since they buy in bulk and i think every 6-12 months they have to sell a PS3 with a bigger hard drive just to keep up. Plus games these days take up 3-6GB just for data alone.
You can replace the hard drive yourself anyways.
