(mod, if this belongs in a more appropriate forum, please move it)
Hey guys,
I feel the same way about Organic food as most people do, but for my dog, for some reason I'm inclined to purchase organic and wholistic food for him. He's a small dog, and in most cases moeny isn't an option when purchasing a bag because he only needs a small bag per month and a small bag is around 4-8lbs and that ranges from $10 - $25.
I've recent gone with Blue Buffalo dog food because it apparently is the MOST organic dog food with high levels of protein vs. carbs.
I came from Science Diet Natural Choice (the organic line from Science diet), and before that it was that Technical Natural holistic food.
Is there really a difference?

There is quite a bit to choose from. With any food you will find some good reviews and some bad.
My dog has a weak stomach, and allergies, so he's on Natural balance allergy forumla, which is like $70-$75 per 30lb bag, and my dog goes through a bag about every 6 wees... so be happy you only need the small bag! lol

I heard on a radio program that good, human food is the best type of food for a dog. My friend gets regular dog food (not organic or anything super expensive), but every few days, gives the dog some extra food that he cooks and lets cool.
Things like a slice of beef or a pork chop (without the bone), some cooked carrots, etc.

That's good to hear, thanks for the advice and support. I usually supplement his food with some good cooked meat.

Dogs are wolves - they should be on a raw meat diet if you going to feed them meat. Their bodies are designed for it.
I think it's just ridiculous feeding human food to a dog - it's an easy way to shorten their lives.

You have some facts to back this statement up of course?
"Dog food" is an invention of Proctor and Gamble and others to create income. Google and read some of the ingredients in commercial dog food and you might soon change your mind. Read how the stuff is stored and handled prior to being made into kibble or 'bones'
My bag of fleas gets some of our food every day including meats, potatoes, carrots, sprouts, cucumber, lettuce. In fact only banana and celery get passed over, and she even eats those if all else has been eaten :)

Apparently you didn't get my point. I don't think I suggested that you feed your dog kibble did I? Yeah right - potatoes, carrots and bananas - pretty sure a wild dog isn't digging up tubers and climbing trees to get at the bananas in the wild. Do you think urban coyotes are digging up vegetable gardens in town or killing cats and small dogs?
There's tons of material on the web about raw meat diets.

Jumbotron you may indeed be right about dogs being wild animals but that was 2,000 years ago. We have domesticated them much as we have domesticated so many animals for our own benefit. I would venture (a guess calculated by viewing the vast array of animal foods in various stores) that 95% of dogs get fed "dog food". My dog certainly does but I did investigate somewhat and now buy what I feel is best for her. Her "human" food is what we have at supper and usually is about 1 to 2 cups full.
By the way coyotes and other wildlife just love country folks who put the garbage out overnight. You can see the remains strewn across the road at daylight quite often :)

Humans like to eat Twinkies, hot dogs, and Cool Whip but that does not make such foods good for you. Processed foods are manufactured, not grown, and hence might have a lot of stuff we are not supposed to eat. Same would apply to dogs.
here is some info about raw food diets, and why its a good idea
