Had my PS3 for just under a year. 2 months left on the warrentry and this past weekend while watching a Blu-Ray it froze and didnt play another since. When i popped in a game it froze within 10-15 minutes. I'm shipping back to them to fix.
They said they MAY send me a factory model or something insted of fixing mine? What are the odds of that? Also will i lose my saved Data if they just fix mine?

That is unlucky. Four of friends have one and not a peep from the PS3. Three of them have another console as well and all have been sent back for repairs. Good luck.

I've heard you will lose all your stuff because they will more than likely send you a refurb model. Sony is good with their support so it shouldn't be that long.
The odds of you receiving your system are low because of its much easier for them to ship you another one rather than fixing yours and then shipping that.

What happens if you send them a 20/60/old 80gb model? Do they send you one of the weaker new models? There better be compensation if you lose BC.

I had mine replaced last week. I received mine the day after they received my defective one. Different console, looked brand new (plastic everywhere on it) but manufacture date was september 2007.. (same date as mine).
Make a backup of your stuff (USB hard drive or stick), you won't receive the same console.
Their service was great, fast turnaround.

My first one (40GB) broke last month. Sent it in, they replaced the drive and shipped it back. It was back in my hands 4 days later with all my data intact.
Now 2 hours into playing with the fixed console, exact same problem occurs again. Shipped it back in, 3 days later I get a different console that looks like a refurb without my data.
Not sure if they have a lemon policy after 1 fix...
Do you play alot of burnt disks on yours? trying to figure out what might be causing this.

Ive wondered this alot too. I suppose it depends on what is wrong i suppose like if the drive is bad im sure they just swap it out, however what they do if teh motherboard is dead is bneyond me as the only real reason to get a 20/60/old 80 gig is the BC and if i didnt get it i would be pissed right off

You should just pick up the lcd screen replacement at dealextreme their like <$15 and do it yourself. But then again it might be difficult, don't know how good you are with taking electronics apart.

If you have a 60GB, you're playing with fire at that point. A buddy of mine sent his in and got an 80GB model in return. He said hell no to that since he wants his BC back. After a few weeks of arguing, he finally got his wish and he got a 60GB back after he shipped back the 80.

I have six friends with PS3's out of our 7 systems 3 have been sent back for Warranty.

I has mine replaced a month ago. I recived what i belive was a brand new console 2 days later. It came the same as yours plastic everywhere, shinny and not a scratch.
The kicker, I did not have the original recipt for my system but sent them a creditcard statement from some random bill will a futureshop charge. They still honnored the waranty :D

Yep, things like your stats are all online but things like builds and perks setups are on your system but those take like 10 seconds to redo so that shouldnt be an issue either
