Wow - how do you guys keep it so low? We're a family of 3, with a 3 year old, and we average about $400 a week, and it honestly seems like we're not buying much as it is!

$70 for 2 adults and a kid??
2 adults here and we're at about $90-100/week... sometimes more. my gf has celiac, so buying gluten-free products really inflates the grocery bill.

3 Adults plus 1 Teenager = $64-90 without cleaning/laundry/sanitation products and $100-130 with cleaning/laundry/sanitation products.

You're spending 1600+ a month a groceries for 3 people? Holy smokes. Maybe cut down on the foie gras and kobe beef.
Family of 3 (5 year-old) and we spend about $150 a week, but we eat out probably 3 times a week, plus we both buy lunch daily.

2 of us, it depends, but on the average $60, that does not include eating out if we do, just normal groceries for what we cook at home.
at times we spend more and stock up on extras.

There's no way you're spending only $150/wk on food, including eating out 3 times, and buying 10 lunches.
I do my main grocery run at Highland Farms. I typically spend about $150 there on what I would consider the basics. Milk, juices, water, produce, cereals, pasta, rice, breads, simple frozen stuff, cleaning & hygiene products.
I then spend about $80-$100 at a local butcher for meats & fish. Nothing fancy like filet mignon, lobster or crab. I usually buy chicken breasts, chicken legs, burgers, sausages, pork chops, salmon, trout, shrimp.
Then we both buy lunch daily, at an average of $8 per meal.. $80
Add to that eating out once or twice on the weekend, and I'm roughly at $400 per week.

Family of 3 (us and a 15 yr old boy) not including cleaning supplies or personal care products we spend about 100 a week - we're living in a remote area compared to some larger centers (like gvr and gta) so we buy alot of stuff in bulk.

If I'm stocking up on meats and cheeses I can easily spend over 200 per week. If it's mainly fruits and vegetables it will be a lot less.
I tend to shop the sales and stock up when I find a bargain.

I never said I spent $150 on food. $150 is what we spend on groceries per week - lunch and dinner is on top. The OP asked about how much your grocery bill was per week. Not how do you spend on food a week. Read the post

2 adults and a pup.We used to spend about $100 - 120 per week but over the past few months it's gone way up to 150-200. I guess the price of everything has gone up recently due to oil...greed...fertilizer...and whatever else can be passed on to the consumer. I now look at the flyers and try to take advantage of products which are discounted.

This always seems to be somewhat of a trick question as everyone calculates things differently. It also always turns into some sort of bizarre competition. I don't separate out my household products from my grocery bill as they usually all come from the same place.
2 Adults - 2 Toddlers - 1 Cat - 2 Dogs
Probably average about $150 per week. But that then includes Diapers, Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Cat Litter, Pet Food, Cleaning Supplies etc etc etc

For 2 adults, we spend 80-100$/week on groceries, no cleaning/hygiene stuff, I have a separate budget for that (it's so different, I just don't see a reason to pool this together). This provides enough food for breakfasts, dinner at home 5-6 times a week, lunches 4 days/week + weekend. We eat a lot of fresh produce (35$), and the cheese bill can be high as well. I am cutting down a lot on meat (2-3 days are meatless + 1 fish), mostly for environmental concerns and healthier eating, which helps a lot to keep cost down. We also have a separate budget of 300$ for eating out, which we usually don't max out.

I don't know for sure; I don't keep track of it, just try to buy food when it's on sale mostly and buy things that I need just for each week.

2 adults, about $70-90 a week. But that's not always just food. Any household stuff that we buy at a grocery store (or Walmart or Costco), we group them into grocery for simplicity sake as long as it's on the same bill.

$400 a week, what are you eating. and what kind of jobs do you have to support that. We are a family of five and while our bill is probably high, its nowhere near that

You have a point, but if I'm not buying food from restaurants, guess where I'd be buying it, the grocery store.
To me food is food, I need it to stay alive, therefore all costs associated with food are lumped together.

2 adults and a 15mo toddler. I budget and meal plan and we're still around $400/mo (including toiletries, etc) - so about $100 a week. We go out for dinner usually once or twice a week and take lunches to work. We use about 50% cloth diapers so that helps.

About $60-70/week on groceries (not including cleaning products)
We choose not to eat meat with every meal, not because of the cost but because we don't want to. Veggies are cheap. I tend to buy my lunch (which I haven't factored into our grocery bill) and my husband has his breakfasts and lunches provided at work and my kids get their lunches through their childcare provider. So its really only 5 or 6 dinners we're talking about and snacks. We go to friends' for dinner about once a week and eat out or order in about every three weeks.

2 adults, 1 toddler, and 1 newborn (doesn't count yet). Avg 90/week strictly on groceries. I take out 200 cash for every 2 weeks, matching my pay schedule, just for grocery shopping. Other costs, like household stuff/eating out, go on credit card.

I don't really know what we spend on average either since it really varies from week to week. Not only meats and cheeses but nuts, coffee, teas even rice can boost the bill significantly on any given week.

~20-30 per wk. How?
1) I buy from Chinese supermarket, which is very cheap. I buy either fresh or frozen materials. Very little-to-none processed or pre-made stuff.
2) I make my own lunches. The only thing "processed" in my lunch is the deli meat that i buy. Yes -- I make my own bread.
3) My workplace supplies lunch 4 times a wk =P
4) I cook all my meals.
5) I buy a crapload of cleaning supplies when they are on sale.
6) I live alone.

2 adults, one toddler and a new born.
Strictly on groceries, $100 - $125 per week.
We go through a lot of bread and milk during the week which isn't included.
I also find we're topping up on our fruit and vegies as we consume a lot of them.

Father and 3 year old son $200 a week easily for a major grocery shop, plus about $30-$40 a week for add ons(veggies, fruits, cheese) we run out of.
How do you people survive...$100 a week? I wish

So you're already at $600 a month, plus probably $20 on lunch combined for both of you a day which is $400 a month so you're up to $1000, you eat out 3 times a week with a low ballpark estimate of $50 a dinner...that's $600 for the month minimum, so that puts you up to $1600 without any fancy dinners...It adds up.

well, most people don't calculate it properly. you can trim a lot of your grocery bill by buying from no frills or looking for specials or weekly meal planning.
if you buy beans one week it last a long time, same with salt, sugar and so on. you need to average at least a few months to come up with some sort of number.
for us it's easily $150 - family of 4 adults.

Really how is this possible unless you're eating gruel? Or are you eating out a lot?
$20 doesn't go very far in Ottawa if you're buying meat/fruit/veggies...
