Yes, a credible review from IGN.com gave Resistance 2, a Sony PS3 exclusive, 9.5/10
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/924/924372p1.html
R2 now sets a pretty high bar for Gears of War 2 to overcome. IGN reviewer stated Insomniac used black magic to fit all those chaos without single frame drop or lag. 60 multiplayers online with no lag gameplay, more intelligent and tougher enemy AI, better teammate AI, split screen co-op gameplay with a buddy, 8 members online squad multiplayers, etc
Resistance 2 features many of the classic game modes that you've come to know and love in multiplayer matches, such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag (known as Core Control in the game). However, it's Skirmish mode where the mode sets itself apart, because the game will feature up to sixty players on scalable maps without any noticeable lag or technical hitches. Skirmish mode is objective based just like Co-op mode, with dynamic goals assigned to the six squads of five players each for the Human and Chimeran sides. These will cover a number of objectives such as controlling a particular node, protecting a specific location or eliminating a priority target on the other side. Rival squads on the other side will be tasked with stopping you, so you'll always have some kind of opponent attacking you and your allies. As time starts to run out in a round, you'll find that the objectives will start to funnel everyone towards a central point for overall domination of the map. This is where the largest battles break out, and also where the action gets most intense, which only serves to boost the level of fun to huge levels. Toss in leaderboards and lots of other multiplayer features, including the MyResistance.Net functionality that will track stats in real time while also giving a number of social networking features, and you have a title that will expand both replayability and community.

R2 and GOW2 are both awesome games, but GOW2 will probably sell more :)

Unfortunately, Gears is already being pirated the hell out of..
Resistance is such an awesome game .. its replay value is incredible.. mustve finished split screen about 15+ times so far
Hopefully R2 will be just as good

liked that the first one featured up to 40 person multiplayer, my issue was that the mode itself looked terrible. guy's charging around with stiff bodies (no homo) and doing the running man while walking slowly and brutal texturing of the maps, the online looked like it was from the dark ages.
i can't compare the two. resistance is your classic run & gun like halo while gears is a stop n pop. comparing to halo or call of duty seems more appropriate

Very nice score. Sort of surprised since I've read around that some people who liked the first one didn't like the sequel as much.

I would say thats fairly accurate, seems like resistance has nailed the run and gun mentality this time

One thing I'll never understand is when IGN gives a game a great review everyone goes 'OMG! BEST GAME EVER IGN SAYS SO!'
But when a game gets a bad review on IGN everyone says 'Its IGN, there's better reviewers out there...'

Doesn't fit their agenda.

its more likely fanboys doing all the talking. have you seen the latest war where 360 fanboys were reducing the metacritic user score for LBP and PS3 fanboys responded by doing the same to GoW2 and 360 responded by attacking the Resistance 2 score, yet none of the games were out at the time except for Gears (on the net).
Read the review. Scores don't matter much. See what they have say about how the game handles itself.

R2 looks amazing. However, the question I have is: Do you need to play Resistance 1 in order to understand the storyline of Resistance 2? From IGN's review, it looks as though I may need to grab a copy of R1 before playing R2.

Technically yes because R2 starts right where R1 finished.
The game is a greatest hits so you can probably find it used on RFD for $15 at the least and if your not interested in trying it out, just go on wikipedia or something.

Ahh right, wikipedia. I really want to delve into the MP on R2. I'll probably go the wikipedia route. Thanks!

You can pretty much get a copy for liek 18-25 bucks from ebgames or gamestop and its definatly worth getting for that price. Its really fun for a launch game and i suggest getting it.

What I don't get is why sites like metacritic even let people vote before a game is released. People giving a game a 10 because of how cool they think a game is GOING to be makes no sense.

I don't usually pay attention to the user ratings on metacritic for that exact reason.

That's a great score. I'll have to look into this game again. I did not like the beta at all. Felt like a Halo wannabe with hiccups getting into games. Of course it's a beta but still.

Insomniac is one of the best developers around. I still say the criminally underrated Ratchet & Clank Future has the best visuals I've seen in a game. Can't wait until Tuesday to grab this!

Beta's over, and for the moment, online play is not enabled, presumably because it isn't supposed to be out yet.
edit:
Anyone else pick this up yet? Anyone who has, have you figured out how to kill these:

If you live in Vancouver, the game is already out (release date is supposed to be Tuesday). I was at the RCSS on Grandview Hwy and they had a half dozen copies.
