Hi :)

I currently own PS, PS2, PSP, and Nintendo DS.
I'm thinking of getting a new game console around Christmas (hopefully the prices will go down).

I am trying to decide between wii, xbox360, and ps3.
I personally think I'm not going to enjoy wii so much because I don't really like Nintendo's mario like games.
So I'm stuck between PS3 and XBOX 360.
I have a big screen tv and a blue ray player already so PS3's blue ray function is not much of a bonus for me.
My PS and PS2 are modded because back then there were no online playing and etc. so it didn't really matter whether it's modded or not.
I like games like grand turismo, rockband, halo and such.
So considering all this, which console should I buy?
Also, if I decide to buy, I don't really need to buy until around February next year. So when would be the best time to get it? Are there any news on new consoles coming out any time before then?

Thanks !! :)

i own a ps3 but if you already own a blue-ray player i'd go with the xbox 360 arcade

It is or was $179.99 at Superstore which is an insane price

If you want to save some bucks I'd recommend the XBOX 360. It's currently the cheapest console on the market and you'll get even more bang for your buck if you wait for a good game bundle to come along. Plus, if you're an RPG or FPS fan you can't go wrong with this system.

Hi :)

So considering all this, which console should I buy?

So you've named 1 game that's exclusive to each console as well as a multi-plat game. That doesn't really help narrow it down any, unfortunately. ^^;

List out some more games that you'd like to play. Whichever console has more games on your list is your answer. The online play on PS3 is comparable to that on the 360, despite what the fanboys might tell you. And the 360 isn't a ticking RRoD time bomb - not anymore, anyway.

Again, look to the games. This is the only real answer anyone can give you, particularly since you've already got your Bluray covered.

Unless you prefer the PS3 exclusives (LBP, MGS4, Uncharted, etc.) which is possible given you own a few other Sony consoles, the 360 Arcade + cheapo hard drive is the best deal out there... you already have Blu-ray, and although PS3 has free online play, you'd be saving a bundle on the 360. Even if you decided to pay for XBL for a couple of years you'd still be ahead.

I love my PS3 and enjoy some of the exclusives (currently hooked on LBP), but I'm not sure I would have picked it up in the first place if it weren't for Blu-Ray (maybe for $249-$299)... which I still haven't watched too many of due to the high cost of the movies and the HD-DVD clearance deals. I still do most of my gaming on the 360.

given your very vague/limited reasons, id say 360 cause of price.

Get a 360, I think they had the 20gb one for 199.99 at bestbuy... but not sure if the deals still on.

I can help you out, I got the wii, the 360 and the Ps3

so Far, I used the Ps3 for 10 hours, 8 of thoses were for watching bluray, owned it a year :(

The wii, I played around a 100 hours, a few great games, especialy, mario kart, zela.

The 360 I played a LOT, I just don't want to count how many hour hehe

The 360 and the PS3 are nearly identical as far as graphics goes but the 360 has more games and it's cheaper.

You should also note that I am a Playstation fanboy, I waited for the Ps3 because I knew it would be a lot better than the 360, but I was so disapointed and so surprise by the 360. Even if the Ps3 is better on paper, it's equal in terms of graphics.

So it come down to what kind of game do you like, Wii games ( easy to get into, a lot of fun with your friends and different)

The 360 a **** load of great game, but more adult and more realistic.

thanks everyone!!
I think I'm kind of set on xbox 360 now.. I don't think I will be getting the arcade version because I want at least a bit of HDD to save stuff on it.
I don't think I will be needing elite (although it would be awesome :P)
I would buy the 20GB one, but it seems that the BB and FS deal for 199 is over and sold out.
They currently have 60GB one for 299$ and it's a bundle with kungfu panda and indiana jones. BB also offers free viva pinata, but the bundle is sold out (although it's available in my area, does that mean I can buy it offline as well? I heard something about bundles being only online and whatever)
Now the question is, do I want to wait until December and see if FS or BB offer some other better bundle? or just go ahead and buy the holiday bundle..
aghh such a touch choice....:)

360. Best value for your money plus it has more cheap and quality games than the other 2.

Get the Arcade from somewhere and then get the 20GB hard drive from Microsoft for $30 (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=647793). You would probably want to get an HDMI cable or component cables if you do go the Arcade route.

You could wait since you don't seem that eager to have it now but I wouldn't. :cheesygri Don't want to fight any holiday traffic online or in-store by then.

This is a tuff one. I own a ps3 and a 360 so i guess i can give you a unbias opinion. (I hope)

Advantages for both systems..

but in the end i would go with the ps3 just because its new technology and will hold its value longer.

plus dont be sold by these price drops of the 360.

the arcade may be 199.99 but you need so many extras.. like a hardrive that will put you out another $50 plus if you want to go online thats another 60$ plus wirless attatchment 50$ or so plus a headset 30$ or so.. all this adds up your better off getting a 40Gb ps3 with free internet built in bluetooth (no wirless attachment required) any blue tooth headset.

so point im trying to make is it may seem like the xbox360 is cheaper but unless your planning to use it offline online your not gonna save much cash.

hope i helped a bit with the price comparison

You can get a year of live for ~$45, 20GB for $30 as I stated above (and comes with 3 months of live), wireless for ~$40-$50 (or get a crapload of ethernet cable for ~$10), headset for <$10 from the BST forums.

You're using this forum wrong.

Well it depends on what games you like. The multiplats are all pretty much the same so you go towards the exclusives you want. Stuff like Resistance 1/2 and MGS4 vs Gears of War 1/2 and Halo. Forza vs Gran Turismo for racing. jRpgs and wRPGs are more titled towards the Xbox 360 at the moment but future releases: Valkyrie Chronicles, White Knight Story, and Final Fantasy Versus XIII for the PS3 may compare to Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, Tales of Vesperia, and Fable 2.

If you were to go by costs then the Xbox 360 would be your best choice since blu-ray doesn't matter to you. The arcade sells for super cheap right now, $199 vs the Playstation 3's $399. Even though it lacks a hard drive and requires $50/year for online game it is still a better value. You get a larger library of games, and a more active online community. It is up to you with you think the extra 200 is worth it for the hard drive, built in WiFi, and free online.

IIRC Best Buy was selling the 20 gb Pro bundle with two games for $199, which is a great price if you can manage to find one.

And batteries/chargers for the controllers. And a set of Xbox 360 AV cables (which come with an audio adapter) if you want optical audio out. The point he's making is quite valid, and shouldn't simply be shrugged off: these small costs add up.

$45 (Live) + $30 (HDD - and that's only if they don't decide to send you a free memory card instead) + $40 (wireless) + $10 (headset) + $15 (battery pack / charger) + $60 (retail price for a set of MS OEM HDMI cables - yeah, wtf?) = $200

Hey look, that's the price of the console itself! And before you get your torches and pitch-forks out, know that I've invested a significant amount of money in my own 360. It's because of this that I feel the base price of the console gets you much less bang for your buck than a PS3, which I also own. All I had to buy for that was a vanilla HDMI cable and optical audio cable.

The 360 is cheaper, but not as cheap as you might be led to believe, particularly if you need/want the features that come standard on a PS3.

So again, it's just up to the games folks. ;)

I've had both, and I got rid of my Xbox 360 because it was costing too much. Do the math. Keep in mind I hate buying 3rd-party accessories.

Xbox 360 Pro(w/60GB HDD) - $299
Xbox rechargeable wireless controller battery kit - $30-$40
Xbox rechargeable wireless controller battery - $15 (only if you have more than one controller)
Xbox wireless adapter - $80
Xbox Live Gold 1-year sub - $50

Playstation 3(w/80GB HDD) - $399
- Controller includes rechargeable battery
- Includes wireless adapter
- Includes free online gameplay
- Includes blu-ray player
Hi-definition cables from monoprice - $10-$15

The controllers for both systems are about the same price. Developers(i.e. EA) are also starting to focus more on the PS3 because it's easier to port games from PS3 to Xbox 360 versus Xbox 360 to PS3. The game catalog might be bigger for Xbox 360, but I can see the PS3 catching up sooner or later.

In terms of exclusive titles, I think the PS3 has better ones with Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Socom, Little Big Planet, etc... Xbox 360 has Forza 2, Halo 3, and some others which are ok but could be better. Halo 3 kinda sucked(COD4 blew it out of the water), and I thought DiRT was a much better game than Forza 2, but that's me. DiRT and COD4 are available on the PS3 as well. IMHO, I think the developers need to put more work into the Xbox exclusive titles. Metal Gear Solid might have taken a couple of years to make, but look at the end product... it's probably one of the best games ever made.

I also used both as media player, and they're both about the same. I just find that PS3 is more open to user created content, and MS is just finally realizing that with Xbox. Even being able to upgrade the PS3 HDD without any issues is a bonus. Who wants to pay $200 for the Xbox 120GB HDD?

For me at least, the PS3 features outweighed the Xbox 360 features. I was happy with my Xbox 360, but I'm even happier with the PS3.

the obvious choice everyone above me is saying the 360...

$200 with a mod and you're set.. can't get cheaper than that with a library selection like that.
