Which grocery stores do you all think have the best and worst hot meals to go? (wings, rice, ribs, fries, salad, sandwiches, etc etc)

I personally like the meals at Loblaws/Fortinos and some stuff at Dominions.
Sobeys and Valu Mart have some alright meal items as well. Not too familiar with No Frills (do they have meals to go?)

Loblaws/Fortinos:
Pros-
chicken/wings are good and don't seem as greasy/salty compared to some other shops, fried rice taste awesome! sandwiches are good.
Cons
a bit on the pricey side $$$$$$ >:(

Dominions
Pros-
decent breaded chicken wing varieties (these wings are huge!)
wedges are ok, sausages? Items not TOO pricey compared to Loblaws.
Cons-
Wings seem to be less flavorful while more greasy than Loblaws, whole cooked bbq chicken seems to be very salty as well as very greasy,
you get what you pay for??

Sobeys
Pros/Cons-
No real experience with them except for their sub sandwiches and one time purchase of bbq chicken + wedges + rice. Sandwiches were so so. BBQ chicken + wedges seemed to be on the dry side but still tasted ok. The rice was not something to complain about or praise about. Just the reg store bought semi mush stir fried rice that had seasoning and stuff to make it "tasty"

Valu Mart
Pros/Cons-
Had their breaded chicken breast/thighs/drumsticks on numerous occasions
with rice or wedges. Not bad at all. Rice was the usual stir fried rice again. The mixture of mushrooms, carrots, onions and green peas in the rice was good and not too greasy. Had good fresh veggies and salad nearby as well.
Only con I can think of is the fact that other than bbq chicken, they didn't have anything else besides breaded type chicken.

So personally, I would say the highest quality "ready" meals to go seems to be Loblaws/Fortinos. Though they are on the pricy pricy $$$ide
Dominions is a bit cheaper but, the quality seems to be a bit lower?
Sobeys and Valu Mart are hit and miss?

What do you guys feel are the best and worst grocery store meals to go?

Chuck.

I love the mango salmon at dominion's...not sure the new Metro still has it..gotta check them out soon...I also love their salad. esp. the argula(sp?) feta pasta salad!!!

I've tried both the deli sandwiches and cooked food at Sobey's..they are alright...nothing exciting about them...I prefer Domion's over them!! I once bought their pizza and cooked them in the oven..I prefer Costco over them...

My mom love the grilled chicken at Loblaw's, but I'm not a fan of them..

never tried anything from valu village and no frills doesn't have cooked food...some stores have a seperate chinese bbq store inside..

but..my favourite grocery cooked food is Longo's...nothing is comparable to them..especially the one inside TD Tower!!

Agreed!!!! There food (I esp love the cold stuff) is especially good! But it's expensive so I try not to eat there as often as I would like.

I also love costco’s rotisserie chicken

Can we expand this thread to Costco and Sam's Club.

IMHO Sam's Club has good rotisserie chicken - tastier than Costco.
Both Sam's and Costco chickens are larger and much less expensive than the grocery stores.

Why of course.

In fact a few years back I tried the hot dog + french fries combo @ a Costco.

Fries were alright, hot dog was big-juicy-and greasy :cheesygri

^ the meal tasted good in itself, only thing was that the portion size for me was tooooooo big (being Costco after all lol)

**One thing I always want to try is the pizza slice @ Costco. That looks very good.

cool.. need a damn membership card just to enter the store right?

thats what turns me off. some family members have membership cards.

I personally don't really have a need to purchase a card though so, I guess I'm outta luck lol.

At my local Costco, you don't need to have a membership to purchase from the food court.

In the Vaughan Costco you could enter the food court through where people exit, they normally don't check memberships there because they assume you're just going to return something or purchase a membership. Don't know if the layout is the same for other Costcos.
