Have it on plasma, via HDMI. Whenever we turn it on, our TV says no signal. We have to bring another TV, and change the PS3 to run through HDMI...really is annoying going up and down the stairs :o
Any ideas why this is happening?

have you gone into the settings?
Settings -> Display Settings -> Video Output settings
try playing around in here? and could it be the hdmi cable?

HDCP issues or the resolution the ps3 is outputting is incompatible with the tv.
When you turn on the ps3 press and hold the power button for 3+ seconds, it will reset the resolution of the ps3.

this is more than likely the issue. You must have set the output for only 1080p and thus your TV doesn't support it.
When you reset the console, it put everything into default so you need to put the original composite cable back on and you can change it now.

Might not be a PS3 problem, likely an HDMI cable problem:
Maybe every 1 in 10 times I try to play a game on the PS3 (either PSN downloaded or disc based), the sound stops working. It's like it works in the XMB before I launch the game and after I quit the game it works, but for the game it doesn't. Happens in Pixel Junk Monsters, WipEout HD, Siren: Blood Curse, Far Cry 2, Dead Space... almost every game.
It fixes itself if I turn the TV off, and then back on again, or if I change the video mode from HDMI1 to Cable, and then back to HDMI1.

Yeah...I just got the system, a second controller, NBA 2K9 and MGS4...on Friday
And guys, thanks for the help. I'm slowly but surely investigating all possibilities.

Did you try the reset trick that someone mentioned earlier in the thread? I run my PS3 at 1080p but the TV at my parents' house is 720p, and when I tried plugging it in the exact same problem happened... just holding down the power button for 3 seconds was all that was needed to fix it.

My TV is native 720p but I run my PS3 at 1080p and I never have to hold down the power button or anything.

I think it works now...cause I turned it on and then off, twice. And it ran, it says 1080p @ 60Hz on my TV when I start it. Thanks for the help guys, boy was it a biatch to configure it!

I can't comment on your TV but that's what happens with the 720p TV at my parents' house. There's no picture if my 360 or PS3 is set at 1080p.
