How is the game? I'm no fan of pointless shooters. I love realism and everyday-man-put-in-extraordinary-circumstances kind of shooters.

yeah i really like it
have you played any of the Battlefield series games on the PC?
Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2412?
Same people that make those games, Dice/EA
The Good:
* destructible environments, so you can blow up building walls, fences...almost everything in the game is destructable and knock down trees with vehicles or guns...like in Crysis (sort of)...
* Some levels are HUGE, I don't know of any other game that has levels this big
* tons of vehicles in some levels, helicopters, tanks, boats, jeeps etc and some levels there are none and it's all infantry
* The game just feels right, weapons feel right and animations are cool and movement is also good, after playing bad company and then going to resistance 2 beta, R2 beta feels like i'm ice skating and too Haloish maybe?
* Sound is amazing! best sound for a FPS i've played so far on console
The Bad:
* single player was pretty bland, the maps were huge and it was funny in some parts but just bad A.I. and storyline was meh
* NO lobby system for multiplayer, you get two choices when you chose multiplayer
Quick match -> Ranked or Unranked
Custom Match -> Some options to chose specific map or Conquest game mode which is similar to mode of play from previous battlefield games

download the demo and try it, i dont think the Multiplayer demo servers are up anylonger but there is a single player portion in the demo thats part of the single player in full game
get it and we can make a squad
maybe Rogers has it for cheap, i wonder if that 2 for $40.00 is back?
I called around Rogers has a 2 For $30.00 value bin but selection here in my city was pretty crappy....
Blockbuster had previously played bad company for $39.99...not bad - i bought mine for $60

When you get "spoted", shot, or even damaged from an airstrike, an orange dot appears above your head. The problem is people can see the dot even through walls without a line of sight. So what you'll see are numerous dots and you can actually put crosshairs near exits and windows and wait for the dots to go by and cap them in the head. This is the sole reason I refused to buy this game. They might as well give me an aimbot too while I'm at it and let the game play itself.

The thing I find about EA games (especially the Battlefield line) is that the single player modes are horrible.
The AI is a joke.
- Both enemy and friendly characters run into trees and poles head on, and con't running and running.. without realising there is still an object in front of them!
- Trying to instruct a friendly unit a set of basic instructions can be a headache.
For example: commanding them to advance or follow and, even if the character agree's verbally.. they end up doing the opposite like going another direction or simply just continuing to stand where they originally are. And when they do follow you, sometimes its only for a short distance (making you have to back trek your character and find them  can you imagine a real army having to deal with such a bad desertion rate?!?!?)
- Sometimes when your friendly's respond to enemy contact, they end up just standing there and hestitating for a good 3-5 seconds (at which point they fall to the ground as casualties lol)
Sigh...
- And lastly, the enemy AI lol..
How the hell are they able to see you through thick tropical foliage and bushes? While you can't see them?! I'd say from anywhere between 50-100 metres.
X-ray vision? Messed up (given the fact trip wires and flares don't even exist in the BF Nam game..)
Sigh... Sigh.. Sigh...
Sure multiplayer mode can be enjoyable but, with the gaming technology in today's day and age? A company can't even get AI in single player mode right??
If ID (Wolfenstein,Doom) were able to make single player mode at least decent way back in the days.. Why is it so difficult for EA to at least bring their AI in single mode up to standard in their Battlefield line today?
Don't they realize that sometimes gamers want to simply enjoy a non multiplayer scenario? Just a break from the usual?
Really I think they have always been lazy with the single players mode, assuming no one would care or notice.
Hopefully they made these corrections for Bad Company though..

I've been waiting for this! I bought the game when it first came out but got bored after about 30 minutes. After hearing about the trophy support I figured I'd wait until the patch before playing again.

I have the X360 version and believe you me, there are plenty of noobs and shitheads to frag on LIVE. Endless supply of team killing fun to be had.
Sure it's pointless but isn't that an oxymoron when you're describing video games? There's nothing better than respawning behind your teammate armed with some C4s. Drop one or three at his foot and as he's patiently scanning the landscape for enemies with his high powered sniper rifle, you give him the biggest jolt of his life blasting him 20 feet into the air -- only to have him come on LIVE screaming obscenities as you bust out laughing on your couch.
Priceless.

I think he means the UAV-esque feature where your enemies show up on your min-map. To me it's fun because this game doesn't try to take itself seriously. And because of the expansive map design, it's really hard to map out where a sniper is not to mention the fact that you can get run over by jeeps, tanks while you're looking for that sniper.
Anyway, it's a lot of mindless fun if that's your bag. There is too much mayhem for anyone to really exploit the radar because your enemies can respawn right behind or in front of you at any given time; it adds to the chaotic atmosphere.

No, not the dots on the mini map/radar. That actually makes sense.
I was referring to the actual dots above the person's head which could be seen through walls without a direct line of sight. Or did EA finally remove their collective heads out of their asses and finally got rid of that "feature"?

i don't understand
if you do get shot in this game you will appear on the radar for a period of time, not sure how long but the your location blip will eventually go away
there are sniper/recon items called Recon sensors which when thrown out in an area will show enemies in this area for a period of time....very useful item when playing defense as there are tons of people sneaking in areas to get to the cold crates

I don't approve BC's implementation of the radar at all. I was merely saying it makes sense if you show up on the radar when spotted, but it makes not one lick of sense when you have a ****ing dot above your head like everyone's just been given hacks.
In BC, You only appear on the radar if someone's spotted you by putting a crosshair on you for 3 to 4 seconds, if you've ran into a motion sensor, or if you take damage. In COD4, you show up whenever someone runs a UAV which covers the whole map, or when you fire your gun, which is just completely asinine. Silencer/UAV jammer blows since stopping power and scopes are so much better. At no point is stealth an asset to you because of the nerfed damage and the fact the game has kill cam. And there's no silencers on snipers. You can actually shoot someone in BC and the victim wouldn't know where the shot came from. This is why COD4 blows and will always be a noob game in my books. Everything, including the way they have the UAV, is a huge crutch. That said, BC is not that much better though with the built in wallhack.

that doesn't appear unless you get detected somehow
it only appears if you get shot by the enemy or you get detected from the recon radar sensors

It's completely balanced, though. UAV rewards skilled players and weens out n00bs (I shouldn't say, but you're a prime example). It makes sense considering it's an ultra-modern shooter that if someone shoots nearby you or you see them or radar picks them up that it appears on your map.
I do not completely agree with UAV because it gives a complete overhead view of the game. The moment it's sent you can see every one of your units and every enemy. If I could change only one thing about it is that I would reduce it's duration from 30 seconds to maybe 10 seconds.
You also have to consider that CoD4 has sprint, something a lot of multiplayer FPS games lack (Counterstrike, TF2, BF2, BF2142, CoD3, etc). They need something to counterbalance the sprint, and UAV is it. In CS you couldn't run from enemies effectively because you're all the same speed, so once you're spotted you're doomed unless you frag him first. In CoD4, it adds a bit of strategy.
I know you've stated your points, but I still don't see the big problem with UAV. Pros like me only play hardcore team DM with UAV jammer and silenced weapons.

if that dot appeared over all the enemies head could you imagine how stupid this game would be?
That doesn't happen unless you are detected somehow (Get shot, get sighted by enemy or Recon sensors)
An example would be the Valley Run map
http://pnmedia.gamespy.com/planetbattlefield.gamespy.com/images/bfbc/valley_run.jpg
Defense always sneak along the corners of this map to get to the Offensive teams air strike vehicle and stop it, that wouldn't be possible if they automatically get detected with dot over their head
And some snipers are impossible to detect even glancing over them scoped in because they blend in so well with the bushes, that dot doesn't appear unless they somehow get shot or recon sensored

There's nothing skillful about getting 3 kills in a row. Given the broken spawning system you can have enemies spawning in front of you, and you can shoot and nade 3 guys in no time. It's not even hard to get 7 kills. I've often lost my airstrike after earning it cuz I end up shooting more people before I even get to use it.
It takes more skill to have environmental awareness as you play, i.e. listening to sounds, watching your teammate's radar bleep go off the map when they got shot, and then predicting where the attack is coming from by map knowledge. One single function introduced into the game wiped that whole aspect of the shooter out. It's a crutch given to people that can't do those things when they play. This is so evident by the fact that even when you fire you gun you show up on the radar. That has nothing to do with the UAV or any sense of realism at all.
And BF2 does have sprint but it does have something COD4 doesn't have, balance. I still play that game despite there's UAV in that game, because it's balanced. You can blow up the UAV recon and it doesn't show the whole bloody map. And even your GPS has limitations, you zoom in, you see the dots telling you what's around the corner, but you don't see what's down the block. If you zoom out, your GPS shows further down the map, but the dots get clustered together so you can't effectively count how many are in the group down the block. And you don't show up on the map from firing your gun.
Saying that COD4 has hardcore mode doesn't change the fact that the basic concepts of the game is ********. If it isn't, you wouldn't be playing hardcore mode because even you inherently recognize how flawed the basic game is or you wouldn't be switching to hardcore. It's funny that hardcore still has UAV though given that's not even how UAV works in real life.

People have always played FPS just fine without wallhacks. Go play some BF2 sometime to see how it's done. BC is a dumbed down version of that game.

You can't really prevent getting detected if you rush because of the recon ball, and the fact that even artillery and nade collateral damage not aimed at you would make you show up, as does a random bullet that happens to hit you. And people can see where you're running off to when the dot is shown through the walls.
When I played the demo I just sniped 95% of the time after realizing this, and guess what, I never got detected. I just look down the map 200m away watching for dots to come around the corner and snipe them. But just because I can take advantage of it, and abuse it, it doesn't make the concept any less lame. I prefer some semblance of realism or balance in MP modes.

most of the maps are big enough that 3 or 4 directions can be taken to get into a crate area, there's just not enough recon balls (lol) to cover that entire area and the team on offense could have their own snipers throwing out the recons to see where you are
it does give less of a suprise if someone is detected, it's almost unfair because i've gotten many knife kills from using the recon sensors to get a jump on enemy positions but i think its needed in some circumstances because in some levels like Oasis which is scattered with tons of buildings...you might never find where the enemy is hiding in all that, they could keep grabbing gold crate after gold crate with ease...defense wouldn't stand a chance

The new patch has done away the one kill knife slice. You need to cut your target (teammate in my case) twice before they die but this doesn't work too well because they start shooting me after I try to shank them the first time.
