it's that time of the season, so far most modchips haven't been hit by this new update.. This update adds some cosmetic changes to the shop channel and patches some of our beloved hacks
As far as been reported, trucha is patched on all IOS versions (not that it matters anyway)
Wads can no longer be installed!!! ... so yeah, stay away from this update if you want to still be able to play downloaded virtual console/wiiware wads like MEGAMAN 9 and world of goo.....
The software backup loader has also been crushed with this update..
A. Does it affect WADs?
- If you had the most recent cIOS, I believe that WAD Manager 1.21 STILL works (it does for some i believe...), Unsure though!! ( many people reporting it doesn't work though)
B. Does it affect HBC?
- If you had yours already installed, it doesn't, but it seems to block new installations of it.
C. Does it affect Already installed games?
- In no way this upgrade affects anything already installed, unless it is something that must use a IOS, because they have been patched.
D. Can you downgrade and have the Shop Channel working?
- I think you can't downgrade for the time being, so nobody can test if you can enter the WSChannel after downgrading.

thanks for telling me because I was gonna try Tetris Party before I buy it as i heard there were tournaments in the future.
what are HBC's? I haven't done WAD installs since the beginning of summer for some SNES installations and I'm still on 3.2U.

I installed the WAD installer (channel) and it does not work anymore after I updated. Not like I used it anyways but it may come in handy in the future. So if you care about that particular feature then this update will kill it.

Yeah I guess.. but for others out there.. Games like Megaman 9 and world of Goo are a big loss.

is it possible to pirate VC titles anyways? I don't see what the big deal is if people are only using it for homebrew.

yeah it's possible for VC.. it's useful for playing some neogeo/n64 games that aren't running in homebrew... but mostly it's about wiiware which has been getting some good titles latey.
Also there is a custom IOS released that will apply the update but leave the holes unpatched.. check out www.wiinewz.com

On a semi-related note, does anyone know if you can use the Wii Classic Controller with the HBC instead of a GameCube Controller?
I just installed HBC (I'm hoping to get Banjo Kazooie working) and need to buy a controller and I'd prefer to buy the Classic since it has more flexibility to be used with more games and channels.

Dunno for sure since I don't have the HBC. But most of the coders used some measure of the Gamecube libraries to build their apps. And most anything dealing with installing "homebrew" used the Gamecube controller.

Since the last update (3.4u). The new games aren't working anymore, e.g.: Guitar Hero World Tour, Wii Music...
Just waiting for a way to downgrade.

I'm using a wiikey. 3.4U seems to block only the newest games, my old backups are still working.

that's weird.. haven't seen other reports of this.. perhaps the versions of the games you burned were trucha signed? Or your wiikey isn't updated to 1.9s

team twiizers releases a new twilight hack that works on 3.4U!!!
http://www.wiinewz.com/
now this time learn your lession and DON'T BE STUPID BY UPDATING!
This most likely will be the last time the twilight hack will be around since Nintendo is very close to completely closing it.
ENABLE parental controls on your wii to prevent others from updating it and screwing yourself over.
I'm hearing rumors that Nintendo has been putting code into place to automatically download and install patches when your wii is idle without notifying you before hand.. again, update and you'll be on your own.

I have just got a new Wii from SDM. I am very new.
The version installed on it is 3.4U. Is that the latest update? Does it update itself if I get connected online? Why people are downgrading to 3.3?
I looked to the update list but it doesn't tell a lot about versions!
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/systemMenuFeatures.jsp
Does Homebrew channel / Zelda princess technique will work with that version 3.4U? What is the most update and does Homebrew channel / Zelda princess technique will work with that latest version? I need only to use software idea no change for the chip. If I messed with the Wii, Can I restore to the original menu? and how? I am totally new and still searching!
Sorry for many newbie questions!
I'm no expert but I have softmodded for someone before. People downgrade since it's much much easier installing programs (i.e. wads) pre-3.4U. You can still install the HBC (homebrew Channel) with 3.4U but other programs may not run so it's best to downgrade when possible. Google softmii, that's the guide I used and it allowed me to backup my buddy's wii details before diving in. With the HBC, you're not really damaging your Wii in any way. If you move the HBC to some other page that can't be seen immediately, you'll see no difference at all with the Wii.

Thanks sfu_lifer. I have a last question.
When using the HBC, how do I run backup games?
* backup games should be burned on a DVD-R and then I can run it from my Wii directly
There's your answer, I recommend Verbatim.
