Admittedly, I have no idea what it does. But I installed the Homebrew channel just recently. Part of the reason is that I read about the potential extra hassle to install it after updating to 3.3U. Right now, I am still at 3.1U.

My questions are:

- Now that I have Homebrew installed, can I update my system to 3.3U? Or I'll have to do-over the Homebrew channel after updating my system?

- What does Homebrew really do? How can I take advantage of using the channel? I've downloaded the Gecko app but I still couldn't run a PAL Boogie Superstar...

There's a new update today 3.4u!!

stay away from it.. it doesn't allow you to install wads.. which means no megaman 9 and other wiiware/vc games.

you also can't install HBC on the new one!

Well, looks like I missed the boat on 3.3U then. Darn. So really, what can Homebrew do? :)

Is there a way to get around this PAL update thing now that I am kind of stuck with 3.1u?

stick with 3.1U if that's the same update on brawl then it should still play everything. That was the last time I updated..... actually I think brawl is 3.2u? Anyway those updates on disc are fine.

Homebrew channel pretty much doubles the worth of your Wii..

flawless emulators: nes, snes, genesis, Turbogfx16, scummvm (point and click sierra/lucasarts pc games with wiimote), atari, GBA, wonderswan, and other handheld emu's. ... most emulators support the wiimote pointer as a lightgun now.

under construction emulators that sort of work /to be released: sega saturn, mame, dreamcast, n64, playstation 1....

Media players to play divx/mpg,mkv,avi off sd card..

homebrew games with motion controls: quake, doom, etc..
region free, wad installers for wiiware/vc and various applications like ftp/web servers...
dump mii/save data to sd card or install them.

here found a list

The last update I had was with Mario Kart Wii. I don't have Brawl so I can't be certain if it uses 3.2u or not. Is there a way to load a specific update via a disc say if I wanted 3.2u but not further?

Many thanks for the info on the Homebrew. Lots to catch up on
