I have a Dell 1320C Laser Printer and a Samsung SCX-4521FG All-In-One Laser. Both have USB connectors but only the Dell has the option for a Network Adapter (around $40 from Dell).

I have 2 PCs and would like to access both printers from the network without having to turn on one PC before the other can access it. Can you recommend the most cost effective approach to achieving this. I own a Speedstream ADSL Wireless Router for what its worth (only 4 ethernet jacks are avail). I could purchase the Dell 1320c Network Adapter but still that would leave the Samsung out in the cold.

I dont know much about Print Servers but wrt to the Dell there are many options available through its WinXP software interface. Would a Print Server allow usage of the same software or does it strip away all the niceties to the bare-bones print options?

Thanks.

1) buy 2 print servers (parallel to ethernet) = $60 x 2 = $120
2) connect both printers to an old computer to act as a print manager.

what you can do is get the $40 atachment for the dell printer and somthing like this (http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/External_Hard_Drives/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&cs=cadhs1&sku=A0912343) which has a print server built in for USB printers. I have one at home and its great, not only do i have a terabyte of network storage (with a gigabit lan port on it) but i have an FTP server and a print server!

this is just one of the options. but you are gonna have to spend some money on a solution.

You can buy wireless routers with USB ports that you can plug both printers into.

Asus WL500GP (http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=12&l2=43&l3=0&model=1121&modelmenu=1) would be my recommendation.
