View Full Version : Favourite video game of all time?

I hear chrono trigger mentioned alot... maybe I'll dig up a copy and play it some day.
I'd say my favourite game is Planescape: Torment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planescape:_Torment)
I'm a big fan of FPS myself and want to pick something like half life, deus ex, or GTA. The thing that stops me is the lack of depth and immersion in most of these games. I find quality storytelling and creativity to be neglected far too often in favour of fancy graphics. HL2 and Deus ex is pretty strong in this regard but like most FPS the story-driven parts of the game and the action-playing parts of the game lack seamlessness as if they were done by two different heads with a wall between them.

Favourite of all time?
I spent a lot of cycles on Duke Nukem 3D.
I also throughly enjoyed playing Wizardry 7 :)
Oh and Final Fantasy 7.
I guess those are 3 favourites.

Super Mario Bros on NES.....
I spent many hours playing that game, I knew a lot of the secrets (probably forgot most of them).
I still pull out the NES and play SMB occasionally.

Baldur's Gate II. Really, all of the Infinity Engine games I've played (Baldur's Gate I, Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale and Planescape:Torment) have been amazing.
My most recent favourite has been Mass Effect. It's the only RPG I've ever finished multiple times.

I'm going to have to go with Tetris. I have played it for hours on end, always beating my previous score. I think I got to level 19 or something before I always lose.
Notable mentions go to Dragon Warrior 4 (my first RPG) and Silent Hill.

For some odd reason, Star Ocean III; Til the End of Time is my favourite game, more so then any other Final Fantasy game, including 7. I tend to get bored when playing games, and go on and off, but I finished SOIII in less then a dozen sittings.
Another would be Metal Gear Solid for the original Playstation.

If I had to pick only one, it would be Half Life.
The action, the puzzles, the physics engine, the plot, the graphics, the in game scripted sequences.
All superbly done.

Shenmue for the Dreamcast. Never before did a game immerse me into the it's world so effectively. Great game with a lot of depth, and the sequel wasnt bad too. Just hoping by some miracle of God they continue this awesome series...

I don't plan on starting CS until there's some mods for it like Oblivion Lost. I really hated vanilla STALKER. I've got some Youtube videos of STALKER I recorded with FRAPs.

All-time favourite: Teenage mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time for the SNES. I think I've played through it with my brother and my friends at least 20 times, and it never gets stale!
But from the past 5 years, I would have to say Shadow of the Colossus. Such an epic game. Imagine a game full of boss fights? How wicked is that?

This is going to be a tough one, but...
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy Tactics
Medieval 2: Total War
Grand Theft Auto 4
I can only name those because they are, for better or worse, stand alone games with self contained stories that have and need no sequel/prequel to make it complete. Unfortunately, that cuts out memorable titles like Baldur's Gate, Starcraft and MGS.
Fable 2 is fast climbing that list...

Super Mario Land for the Gameboy. This was the first gaming experience I have ever had and for a game that came out so long ago, IMO, it's still pretty good and still my favorite game after all the advances in technology. There is still something about monochrome games and finishing the game with no possible save points that make this game so appealing:D.

now we're talking, finally someone who appreciates old school adventure games.. Full throttle was great too kind of short.. back then Lucasarts had the midas touch..

I can't pick just one.
I think if I go by best memories and fun times I'd have to say either Daytona or Sega GT in the arcades with 8 players linked together. Even better where the ones with force feedback and motion.
I think the Wipeout series ranks really high up there for me, Street Figheter II Turbo is classic, the MSR/Project Gotham series, Halo 1 was epic, Tetris on the original GameBoy, Shenmue on the DC, Jet Grind Radio, HL2. I can't pick just one.

I still have yet to get through that. I got a BIT passed the crossroad point (you know what I mean) but then all my saved game files went. UGH! I just started again. It's a really neat game.
