Any recommendations?

I'd like to switch accountants since I really think I'm getting ripped on my year-end fee for a small one-person corp used for my IT business. I paid ~$2000 last year for T2 prep (not including T4 nor bookkeeping).

For those willing to share, how much are you guys paying? What's involved in the process of switching between accountants?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The process is easy. You simply take all the material you got from your accountant this year and give it to your next accountant (along with the new 2008 material of course)

I can't comment on GTA names or prices, but I have a moonlighting CGA do my books. I pay him $1000. That includes a set a of financial statements, federal T2 return, provincial return, GST return and our 4 family T1's. It doesn't include a lot of bookeeping because I provide an electronic copy of all my receivables & payables.

I paid $350 this year, just year-end, no T4 nor bookkeeping. The accountant is a CGA and runs her business from her house, which I don't care. Most of those that I called, asked $750 and up.

Another accountant we use is a CA and charges ~$1,300, including T4 and GST filing.

Like the other poster said, switching is as easy as said.

You get what you pay for.

If you don't feel you are getting value, move on.

Ask for references from friends.

I wouldn't be using an accountant that takes money under the table - just doesn't seem right.......
