I'm pretty disappointed. I have shaw and I wanted the extreme speed by telus because it was only $2 more and they claim to have a download speed of 6Mbps and 1Mbps upload which I don't get. When I called up tech support, they said 5Mbps is acceptable. Shaw advertises 5Mbps and I get about 4.9Mbps which is pretty darn close, but telus advertises 6Mbps and I get about 4.8Mbps. I guess things haven't gotten better since I left 3 years ago and I won't be coming back ever again. At least shaw advertises the speeds that is possible of reaching but for telus? I bet I won't ever see the 6Mbps at any time of day

I got the student promotion offer, at $24.95 a month for Extreme speed but I don't recall hearing anything about a contract. Am I considered to be on trial right now ? Can I cancel it? I'm pretty dissatisfied with the speeds I am getting and have decided to keep Shaw. Unfortunately on Sundays there will be nobody from Telus to address my concerns , only their clueless tech supports which do not know much...

and I already got disconnected a few times using telus too and this is on a secondary phone line in the house which is completely separate from the other phone lines anywhere else in my house.

I doubt you would disconnect while on Telus. I have DSL and I never get disconnected. I don't see why you want to cancel so soon, give it some time.

I too moved from Shaw to Telus (@ beginning of '08) only to regret it later (1 year contract).
I am currently paying for ADSL Enhaced, ala 3Mb/s, however have only been getting 1.5Mb/s. Disappointing to say the least and obviously Tech Support is clueless to resolve the problem claiming the constraint is internal to our home. After 3 hours total @ Tech Support (asking me to change various inapplicable network configurations), they might send a technician out to confirm correct hardware configuration @ CO.

I already challenged them to prove to me that it is internal and I will sure address my router configurations, however after only using their SE567 gateway and proven the same degraded transfer rate, I know the constraint is external.

Let's see how long they leave me standing (1 week thus far).

If you want the better service, support and higher quality network, 90% of the time, you can't go wrong with Shaw: you get what you pay for.
I hate arguing with Tech Support when they claim the problem is this and that when it has currently nothing to do with the existing problem.
At one point, they said my VLAN (private) IP address was the problem.
Or it was because I had too many connections going out (although 0 of them downloading any data, just established connections for crying out loud!).

BTW, I too used to get disconnected at times. After their troubleshooting, I seem to now have a more stable connection, but even slower! About 10%. Still!

With any contract (cell, security, cable, internet) you have, by law, 3 business days to cancel service. If you are within this period you can cancel with no penalty. You might have to put up a big stink though as the big 3 don't like this law and will do anything to delay you beyond the 3 days and avoid canceling your contract without you paying any fees.

Cancel ASAP... before the grace period!

Tell them the reasons and you should be fine. Don't be easily swayed by their offers unless they really give u a good deal.
