Every lunch time is a dillema, I'm forced to make tough decisions on where to go for lunch in Toronto's undeground PATH system. Can anyone recommend good places for lunch? How about places to stay away from?

I think Modern Wok has the most authentic food in the Chinese food category.

In the manulife center, on the corner of st. charles and bay (I think? do they intersect), there is a little italian restaurant, I cant think of the name, but its next to the canada post office...I know that is vague, but they have the BEST FOOOOOD ever and really really good pizza and there are a lot of take out things on display in the front, good prices too.

They got a Swiss Chalet Express in First Canadian Palace.

Mmmm...now thats good eating. Only prob is its very hard to find a spot to sit from 12 to 1.

A place called Thai Island in the lower level @ First Canadian Place.

I need my food fast out of necessity but that's no reason to eat crap. I just want to discover a few gems that will satisfy my whims. If I feel like Chinese I go to X. If I feel like pasta, I go to Y. If I feel like Greek I'll go Z. Pizza, burgers, curry, etc.

Bordrr, I'll try that place if I can get a name.

Jaytee, 1st CDN is crazy at lunch but they got the best outdoor facilities for the summer B) ahhhh.. summer.

Ben Jr, Thai Island is one of my regulars. For some reason I really like their curry and soup noodles. :P

I pass Modern Wok everyday but Ive never tried it. There is always a long line at lunch though.

In Simcoe Place they have a excellent Thai place. I cant remember the name, Green Curry I think. Its to the left of McDonalds. Just look for the big big line.

I go there all the time. Its very good and fairly cheap. Most combos use to be $5 even but they recently increased to $5 and change. I recommend the sesame chicken on pat thai with spring roll. Mmmmmm.

The restaurant "Bordrr" was describing in the Manulife Centre is SCACCIA, an Italian restaurant/take-out on the Concourse Level. Excellent food!

Try ordering:
- Scaccia pizzas: definitely not the typical mundane pizza we're used to
- Chicken sandwich with cheese

For Greek food, go and try Epicourn (sp?). It is at First Canadian Place, on the same level as the Swiss Chalet. But it is in a far corner, all by itself and it also has a restaurant part as well.

They have an excellent chicken breast dinner. The chicken breast is very different from say Jimmy the Greek. The meat just tastes so much better and tastes like chicken and has a nice texture. For some reason, I find Jimmy The Greek chicken to be more processed and rubbery.

**EDIT** Just checked the First Canadian Place website, the place is now Santorini Cafe. I think they were always under that name but also had Epicourn (sp?). Maybe that is for the restaurant. I hope they haven't changed as I haven't tried it in over a year, maybe someone else can attest they haven't changed management etc.**

For a good veal on a bun, try Piazza Manna, in the Exchange Tower food court.

There's a new Thai place at Scotia Tower called Thai Express. The only problem is that it's very very busy. You will lineup up to an hour during busy times. However, they cook their stuff fresh in front of you. For example, if you order the Pad Thai, you will see the chef take the ingredients and make it in the work right in front of you so you know it's fresh.

At BCE Place, there's an actual Piazza Manna restaurant. It's not a fast food place like all the other ones. They make great Foccacia sandwiches that are toasted. Their meatball sandwich is very very tasty and big!

My regular place is also Thai Island at the Exchange Tower and the Noodles at First Canadian place beside Taco Bell. For curry, I usually go to EDO at BCE place. They pack the container with a lot of curry chicken. If I want to go lighter, Fit For Life has a Curry Chicken/Salad combination for $4. The Roast Chicken combo at Jimmy the Greek is also a decent lunch.

ohh I work right next to BCE place. Defintely visiting Piazza Manna.

Scotia's pretty far but maybe one day it'll be really slow or something and they'll tell me to take a longer lunch.

First canadian place is a bit away but still reachable within the hour I suppose heh. They need a Wendy's near union. Could really go for a taco salad :p

so ..... when is the next RFD Lunch on the PATH meet????. :cheesygri

I usually go for Saute, Wendy's, or Teriyaki in the PATH near Wellington/University, otherwise it's a cheap lunch at Sandwich World by Lombard Place (Great for deal seekers like our fellow RFD'ers).

szechaun x2 is decent but somewhat pricey fare.........but then again, in this part of town, the only thing not over $5 is the taco bell value menu and the street meat.

co workers get a tad annoyed if I don't bring back any for them tho....

maybe we should make this more RFD-centric and have a <$4 lunch in the PATH.

I tried Hero Burger once and I don't think I would go back again. I found it overrated and overpriced. But, if you want to try it, I guess you should try it once. :D

If you're ever on Queen street East, try the chinese restuarant called Good Food. Nick name is "The Goof" because before they redesigned the whole place, the name was in an L and the lights that only lit up spelt THE GOOF or something like that apparently. But its so damn good there! and cheap, my father and I plus a friend of mine all got a meal and everything together came to just under $20.00 believe it or not.

Don't forget the street meat vendors on ground level outside most of the towers as well! $3 for a sausage!

And if you can make it up to Nathan Phillips Square for lunch, there's always a blue truck parked on the street that has awesome sausages and fresh cut fries for cheap.

Which tower? I'm at 161 Bay (aka Canada Trust Tower).

BCE Place has McDonald's, Jimmy the Greek, EDO, Piazza Manna (sit in restaurant also), Fit 4 Life, Subway, Manchu Wok and Green Leafs. One of the busiest places is EDO during lunch, the lineup gets quite long. Most people get the Teriyaki Chicken but I go there to get their Curry Chicken. Subway is also popular specially now that they have their $2.99 daily special. Piazza Manna has great toasted Foccacia sandwiches and a killer Meatball sandwich. They also have great Pizzas. This place will most likely be packed during World Cup games. Jimmy the Greek is good for their Roasted Chicken dinner for $4.99.

At the same time, if you are at BCE place and have time (and the money), you could always go to Richtree (formerly Marche).

I still like their Caesar salads.

Also, don't forget the Starbucks and the various Juice vendors as well.

Yes! I'm working on specials soon... maybe esp. one for RFDer's. But I figured RFD wouldn't be paying $4 a drink.. hahhahaha :D

I personally believe that there's are different types of RFDer's with different levels of "cheapness". :D There are some who won't pay more than $50 for a chair, while there are others who will pay $500. So I think this goes the same for food. :D

So if we go and ask for Blunt, any RFDeals on the spot? Wow...be strange meeting fellow RFD'ers in person. May have to try one of the juices/bubble teas/protein drinks.

Nice setup for the juice shop though. I was surprised when it went up...one day nothing, and the next day...Woah...what's this?

Here's a questions though, do you do PM's with Richtree in regards to their juices at the end of the day? I believe that their freshly squeezed OJ goes really cheap after 5 pm which competes with your prices. (I could be wrong though...)

Just some food for thought!

Hi All,

After these series of discussions, I've started becoming a regular at "Freshly Squeezed".

There is a great "daily special' for a Strawberry/Banana Smoothy (Large) 3.99 incl tax. Nice portion, and if you watch the girl make it, is all real fruit.

Also, they now have a frequent buyer program. If you go, ask for a punch card (not normally offerred, but available).

Buy 8, get 1 free...very easy to do (in my case).

Also, if you go there in the mornings, there is usually only one person working there...really nice and happy to speak to! If you need a pick me up, head there in the morning and ask how's it going!

There is very few options there: Nashtah is in FCP and is pretty decent Indian food. The Thai place in Simcoe is expensive, but relatively decent. The other Thai place in Scotia PLaza is very expensive and not worth it. The other place I go to is $4 (tax incl) for a gyros sandwich at food court at Atrium on Bay. And that's it....

how much are you willing to spend? If you've got a big appetite you can walk over to Kama at King and Simcoe for all you can eat indian food. It's about $15.

Reds in FCP isn't too bad. I go there when it's on the company card. :D

you can also walk over to Richtree in Brookfield Place (formerly BCE). They have daily specials, and you can get a sit down meal, for about $10.

For RFDers, I think the cheapest places to get lunch is Sandwich World, where most things are $4 flat. chicken cutlet on a bun and salad, or rice and curry chicken with a salad, tandoori chicken, rice, and a salad, etc...

Or, Noodle King in that food court between the sheraton and the Bay. You can get a bowl of noodles and some lemongrass chicken for < $5.

You should try Ninki, located near the Sweet Factory in Scotia Plaza.

Sit-down type restaurant and I think their Bento box is $12.95+taxes. Pretty good Bento box with lots of food (salmon teriyaki, rice, beef, a small thing of rolls - maybe tempura too).

Just get there early as there tends to be long line-ups.
