Hello great people of RFD, I seem to have a popular problem in that DVD's that I burn will not be read by my drive anymore.
I have an Dell laptop with a NEC ND-6650A CD/DVD+-RW
drive
In the past I have had no problems with burning data DVD's but have encountered a problem, Dell has been no help either.
I have not changed media, but I can no longer read Data DVD's that I burn but they can be read on other computers? All other disks that I burnt before this problem arose will still read no problems.
When the Drive contains the new disks it sometimes comes up as being a cdrom.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am having no luck in sorting this out.

I had similar problems before too (not the same model as yours), and I think updating the firmware fixed it.

Have you tried updating the firmware? Have you tried another DVD writer?

Yep, I've tried updating the firmware to the latest for my model, but it didnt fix my problem. I've also tried compressed air, lens cleaner etc.. to clean the drive so i don't think that's the problem...

Try burning slower at 2x or 4x. Also try a different brand of media.

thanks for the suggestions..

I've tested burnt data discs on macs, vistas, as well as other xp systems and all seems fine. I've tried adjusting the burning speeds but that doesnt really help either. The burning process seems to be fine, but I cant read the disc after they have been made.

please help..
