I listened to the tracks that got leaked a while back, and one or two tracks aren't bad, but its not GnR without Slash IMHO...just a Rose solo effort.

Who said Axl is now clear headed enough to actually release the album he's ben working on for the last 15 years? It should also be pointed that this is not the original cast of GNR...Slash, Duff, Matt are not on the album, just Axl and his messed up head...don't expect this album to be good even if it does get released.

VR I can see... even though I seriously doubt I will like Axl's stuff more than Contraband or Libertad.... But Death Magnetic absolutely kicks butt... from the leaked tracks I've heard, there is no way Axl could beat Metallica on his own...even if he worked on the album for another 20 years.

that's not a bad thing

drummers and bassists in 99.9% of bands(GNR included) are 100% replacable. Only a select few bands they aren't(IE Rush, Dream Theater)

as for Slash he was replaced with 3 different lead guitarists, Buckethead(who is, imo the best guitarist on the planet), Bumblefoot, and Robin Finck.

Let me say that I continue to be a Guns N Roses fan. Appetite and the Illusions albums are some of the best hard rock albums of all time. I have seen Velvet Revolver (including Slash, Duff and Matt) live multiple times.

I heard the June 08 leak of Chinese Democracy and (IMHO) it sucked hard. Poor, rambling songs, Axl sounds like a dying cat, etc. So I can't say I'm too excited.

Of course, real GNR is not just Axl and a new band, but it would have to include Slash, Duff, Matt and hopefully Izzy too.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to the ex GNR clan to find a new lead singer and make another go at it. The Scott Weiland project went well until he started acting up like Axl. I bet Slash, Matt, and Duff will have a new band formed and an album released before Axl can even say a release date for Chinese Democracy.

Once Reni left the Stone Roses, the band self-imploded within a year. The new drummer was like a novice on Rock Band, most evidently in rhythm-driven songs like Fools Gold.

Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris must be out of their minds if they think that New Order can continue without Peter Hook. Gillian was easily replaced on keyboards, but you can't perform Blue Monday or Bizzare Love Triangle w/o Hooky's signature bass.

If I buy that album, it will for sure not be a pre-order. Imagine those who pre-ordered it in 2002 :)

I pre-ordered GTA4 in July 2007 (Dell deal of the day) and got it in April 2008, that's already long enough :)

I will believe the new GNR album when I'll be able to touch it. I don't even read the news anymore

Good points. For GNR, Izzy was a key songwriter and that's why the band mainly imploded after he left in late 1991. Axl and Izzy were always the main songwriters of GNR.

It really depends on the type of music the band is playing. For "atmospheric" band sound like New Order, bass is definitely more important than lead guitar; or just imagine if Phil Collins was missing from playing his own In The Air Tonight. However, I do agree that it's the song-writing role which is more important. So while Phil Collins could imitate Peter Gabriel's vocal and sold more records for Genesis, he never brought back the Genesis of Selling England by the Pound. Similarly, even Blue Monday itself is a nice piece of music TECHNICALLY, it's not even close to Closer (by Joy Division) in terms of getting the message/meaning out.

Keep these kind of topics out of the Hot deal section please.

Still, this is NOT a Hot Deal. Entertainment is perhaps the more appropriate place.

The glory days are gone. Not many bands can top themselves, especially when they were that amazing back in the day. Metallica lost it a LONG time ago. Death Magnetic is god awful. Can't speak for Chinese Democracy, but I'm not expecting much. Slash was practically half the band.

For the thread on the Sharp TV, there's discussion on "banding" across various television units. That "snow wolf/wheel" thread contains info on comparable snow shovels. The "Poang" chair thread has talk on similar chairs and their relative comfort-to-price ratio.

Don't see the problem of a thread on "Product A" comparing the merits of Product A with Product B.

It's kind of stupid to ask who is GNR or saying never heard of them (although I would render the guy some benefit of the doubt since the links were probably not there when he posted); HOWEVER, it's more shameful trying to bash China and the people from mainland China whenever one has even the most remote chance, like in a thread about rock music, esp. when he or she does not know a thing about the underground rock scene over there.

And before you all jump up my ass, I was a fan of the original (real) GNR back from 87-91. I have Appetite for Destruction, GNR Lies and Illusions 1 & 2. The new "GNR" doesn't deserve the name.

I thought it was the coolest thing ever it was just when walkmans came out that were affordable to me or something like that lol. good times

it was sad how the originals (or semi original 2nd generation of the band depending how you look at it) fizzled and burned out just as they were getting into their groove...so much good music out of that crew

+1. New Order comes from Joy Division (after Ian Curtis killed himself they changed their name). Joy Division is a legendary band, if anyone hasn't heard their 2 albums which are now almost 30 years old, you are missing out.

And as an old school Metallica fan, I think Death Magnetic is their best album since And Justice For All, 20 years ago.

It's awful. It's a weak attempt at going back to their roots and it doesn't even compare to anything from AJFA and prior. There's no flow to the songs. It's just random riffs tossed together to make a "song". The lyrics are stupid "Love is a four letter word", come on. Obviously we won't agree, though. But that's my opinion.

And New Order isn't complex stuff by any means, sorry. Not that it has to be, but saying their bassist isn't replaceable is a bit of a stretch.

As a HUGE Joy Division fan, I must say that New Order was so NOT Joy Division that it's like Human League minus Heaven 17. But to be fair, Blue Monday is a good piece of dance music, just that its romanticism is a bit ... artificial.

Being a 32 year old and having listened to guns and roses when I was in the
7th grade I can honestly say I couldn't care less.
People my age don't buy too much music. The fan base that they should have cashed in on grew up. The majority of the music that people buy is made by the younger generation who don't even know who guns and roses are. They waited too long.
They can't even get back their fans because he does sound horrible. There's no incentive to buy or even listen to them let alone pay money for it.
Plus the fans that did give a crap downloaded it last year and found out it was worse than they imagined.

Horrible management.

P.S. No Slash? It just keeps getting worse. At least when they had buckethead it was amusing to see a guy in KFC hat.

what I meant by that statement was at a purely technical level. Buckethead is supremely above Slash... in the ranks of a Petrucci or Satch....

Slash is much more stylistic though which does work better for a band like GNR. which is why I also think Bumblefoot is a better fit for GNR as slashes replacement(wtf Robin Finck is doing there I don't know...)

I bought it today from FS for 12.99. The CD's ok for an AXL rose solo project. Doesn't sound like GNR, but its growing on me a little bit.

Maybe its because there aren't many decent rock albums that come out anymore, that my standards have lowered?

I did see Guns N' replacements a year or two ago when they were in Edmonton. Regardless of Chinese Democracy it was a really good show, I guess AXL still knows to put on a live show.
