I do mobile automobile scratch repair and paintings. I'm fairly new to this operation. My customers would be retail, body shops, and car lots. I know if I use my own name I won't have to register the business but I also want to educated the public what I do and the benefit of using my service with a website.
Can I have a website with a domain name other then my own name, eg.. mobilepaintwork.ca ? yet my business card would have my real name and the website's address and my phone number, a description of what I do etc? (will this considered doing business other then one's own name and must register as a sole proprietorship?)
I don't think my income will exceed $30k a year for now, therefore I won't need a GST number.
whats your opinion on this, is it considered a right way to do business (legally)?
I'm currently unemployed so I can do this full time and not expecting a steady income starting out. How do I go about filling taxes?
Thanks for reading and for your time.

It's early in the morning and your question is a bit of a ramble so I am sure that I will be corrected later on:
A. You can definitely have a website that says www.mobilepaintwork.ca that showcases your work and you can then have a biz card that has your own name and email.
B. I'd register as a sole proprietorship if I were you...it's not expensive.
No worries about the GST situation (yet).
Good luck! :)

Thanks Ironmac
I have no problem registering a business name, I just worry about the tax issue. If I registered as a sole proprietorship do I file tax as a normal working person?
As I said, I don't expect to make steady flow of income yet, might make only a few hundred dollars in a whole month. How do I file tax like this?

Taxes are filed through your personal income tax... under self employment you would state your income.
As ironmac mentions, having a website has nothing to do with your company name.
The $60 for registration allows you to open a business bank account as well, which looks more professional to potential customers when the cheques are written out.

I am going to register as a sole proprietorship, I'm planning to use my personal bank account to do business. I know I will have to have my customers pay cheques to my name. I don't expect to make more then $30k a year starting out so GST number is out of the question ( I won't be charging GST).
Besides my personal income tax slips, I recall that the government will send other tax stuffs quarterly.

Your best to just sign up for a business. Taxes are pretty simple, they should send you something quarterly I believe to fill out for taxes, its pretty easy to go through. Just keep copies of all of your invoices and bills.
If you are trying to grow this into any sort of business your best to do it now. Establish yourself with a business name, you'll look more credible to dealers and body shops.

Quarterly tax stuff?
Don't you mean, you might have to REMIT taxes quarterly? I mean, what 'stuff' do you suppose the government will be sending you quarterly?
a slip that you have to fill out and return to them, beside the once a year income tax return. That is because one is registered with a business name.

so being a sole propietorship and doing it on part time business.
will it affect your current employment income tax?
full employment makes 30 000 a year and get taxed accordingly
part time business makes whatever (expenses are written off etc)
will it effect my current eployment income tax in anyway?
