If it does not record to a common format like mp3 or wma then run away.

I've previcously purchased a Panasonic voice recorder, not this model, and it required Panasonic software to download and listen to the recordings. Never managed to get the software to install properly. Gave to my kid. I subsequently purchased an Olympus WS100 that works just fine - it is seen as a flash drive when I plug it into the USB and all recordings are wma files.

i bought sanyo from Tokyo airport duty free and it does record mp3 and plugs in the regular usb port
