I'm going to Cancun on Nov 6th to 13th... staying at The Royal Cancun. I was wondering the following:

Has anyone ever been to the royal? What should I look out for etc?
Looking at the weather (long range forcasts) it isnt looking too pretty :( thundershowers starting late october... should I be concerned about this? i know it is long range forecasts which change quite quickly but still..

Also what kinda activities are "Must Do's" we are thinking about doing Chichen Itza and maybe a little scuba diving... also beaching and relaxing of course :)

I asked the wife to pick a destination this summer and she chose Cancun. I did not want to go to Mexico again but shes the boss.

The Royal is such a perfect hotel for relaxing, the pool is amazing the beach and pool cabanas are perfect. The service is very accomodating lots of servers and even a guy that passes out freezing cold towels to soak your forehead poolside.

The restraunts are great with lots of selection and again great service. I have never tried so much foreign food that was acutually good.

The lounge at this hotel is ok and there is no nightlife. If you go next door to the Gran Caribe Real the lounge is a lot more exciting with younger people to party with. They advertise 4 bars on the site but really its one with four corners and thats all I needed lol

There is no water sports at this hotel, go to Aquaworld.

We stayed in the Penthouse suite on the top floor, the room was large with a full fridge and some very nice bottles. These bottles in Canada are about $90-$110 a bottle. Another nice touch is bottled Evian instead of most hotels in house bottled water. With these rooms you also get a reserved cabana at the pool.

We ended up moving to a swimup suite for 3 nights and these rooms have the good and bad. Having your own pool is good but we miss the space of being upstairs.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I most definately do have more questions haha :)... how easily did you find getting a cabanna? How long aprox does it take to walk to Gran Caribe? Are you able to take advantage of the all inclusive stuff at the Gran Caribe as well?

If you do not have a reserved cabana the good ones are usually taken early, maybe 8-9 am.

The two hotels are next to each other so if you were to walk it takes about 3-4 mins. Dont bother with there pool the royal pool is amazing!

Yes because you booked the Royal you can use any of the Real hotels properties and everything in them. The clear wristbands are all access. The Caribe also has a night market.

I also forgot to mention that you also get the use of the hotels Mini cooper for a hour everyday! I did not take advantage of this because I drank the entire time lol.

When you check in they will do a sit down and will ask you to meet them in the morning for breakfast for a hotel tour beleive me you do not need a tour!

The Caribe is a all ages hotel where the Royal is 18+

I was really concerned about booking this place but I had a great time.

Even though this place was pricey I wish i was in your shoes. If you did not book the presedential suite or swim up and you want to try them you can always uprgrade when you get there. We met a couple that saved alot of money by doing this.

Also timeshare wise... any tricks that I should look out for?

The breakfast or hotel tour is what the timeshare is. Just say "no" they will not bother after that.

The only tip I can think of is at this hotel they supply Coors light in cans if you dont want draught!

FYI there is one restraunt that you have to make reservations for and it is no better than the others. They make you sit at a table of 8 with other people and some people do not like this. If you do.....then its fun.

I will post some pics of the hotel tonight.

Thanks for the welcome, I saw your question and I figured it was time for a acct.

Awesome pictures would be FANTASTIC!

is Coors the only non-draught beer they offer?

also... any reason your PM is disabled :)

I never heard of the Royal Cancun...it obviously was called something else before. Piramides Cancun to be exact. From the pics, . However, the hotel didn't look busy in those photos. In fact, pretty dead which is unusual for the summer.

There is not alot of rooms at the Royal and IMO is a good thing for relaxing. I do beleive that it was under a different name before but this was our first time to this side of Mexico.

Those pictures were taken later in the day and yes the pool is sort of busy at times but nothing like other hotels that we seen there. There is also another side of that pool and that is the activity pool with volleyball and games etc. The side in the photos has the swim up bar and my room so thats where I parked myself. The pool in the pictures is actually x2.

The is one other bottled beer that you can get and I think it was this XX or something. It wasnt bad IMO but I am not that picky.

Depending on what room you have ours had 2 LCD T.V.s (1 in swim up) and a bose sound system. This also featured a MP3 dock. No you dont need an IPOD any MP3 will work.

The beach is nice (much bigger than other cancun hotels) and not busy at all on some days I went down for an hour or two and we were the only people there. The pool is so nice and clean that I found myself just enjoying the view from the pool. The ocean is alsmost hot at times I could not beleive it.

Our trip was FANTASTIC! the hotel is SOOO nice. and the staff are awesome! never had any issue with timeshare people (maybe because we are quite young[early 20s]). staff was awesome and food was awesome, Asiana for teppenyaki has to be one of the best meals there.

Chef's Plate was also awesome very special experience!

Did Chichen Itza for cheap, book at Market 23 way cheaper than the hotel travel agents! (barter barter barter!)

Pool was awesome, service was awesome, trip was awesome! will write more later ;)
