Can anyone recommend any reputable fencing contractors in the mississauga area? What is the average price per linear foot -- $30/ft? Not looking for anything fancy here, just a standard 5' fence with 1' lattice.. 4x4 posts. My backyard is fairly small.

Thanks in advance

I have gone with Eagle Fencing - I'm located in Richmond Hill - and so far no complaint about workmanship and cleanliness. Remained to be seen for the next year or so.

Posts are claimed to be 42" deep

Instead of a 4x4 posts, I would suggest for a buck or so more per linear foot, look into a 5x5 post - Not as bulky as 6x6 and more resistant to twisting.

General rate is between $25 - $27 should be a good price based on my research.

There's a company out in Waterloo called Jay Fencing. I haven't personally dealt with them but I heard good comments.

As for price per lineal foot...all depends on the type of fence you're looking for. There's a lot of new alternatives on the market that are low maintenance that I would look into. If you're looking for something private you can chose between wood, vinyl, composite or even chain link with slates.

By far, chain link would be the cheapest but not really the best looking. 15-20$

As for wood, if you want a good looking fence year after year you need to take care of it...paint/stain every 2-3yrs. Because of our winters, wood will twist, rot, split, crack and fade to gray. But for a regular fence installation wood can go between 20-30$ if your planning on having 1' of lattice. Which obviously doesn't include additional expenses & time for years to come.

Then there's vinyl. There's a lot of different choices with vinyl...you can go cheap and it probably won't last very long or you can go with the more expensive vinyl and have a clean looking fence. Disadvantage of vinyl is that not everyone likes the plastic look, it can easily break with our cold winters and there's a good amount of termal expansion or contraction. Cheap vinyl can go between 20-30 and the good quality one usually goes for $45-60 installed. Low maintenance...not painting or staining required. Doesn't contain any natural elements like Lignin(decomposes to ash in UV light), Rosin(nutrient for fungal and microbial scavengers!), Tannins(tannic acids, stains boards and corrodes metal fasteners).

Finally, something fairly new on the market is composite "a material that is made from several different substances". There's different types of composites on the market currently. The great thing about most composites is that like vinyl, they don't require any painting or staining and most come with a lifetime warranty. If you like the look of wood, there's several options that have a wood grain look. Most composites also use post consumer recycled material if you're eco responsible!:cheesygri One negative is that most composites use wood-flour in their products which has all of the natural elements that will make the product rot, fade and will corrode with metal fasteners. The only product that I found which does not have any of those elements is a product called TimberWolf. Its also by far the best looking composite that imitates wood grain. Other options would be Fencescape and Eon(mostly plastic). Composites is about the same price as good quality vinyl, can vary from 40-60$.

Sorry for the lengthy post, I got carried away! Hope it was informative.

We got our 6x6 fence done by Heartwood Custom Carpentry (http://www.heartwoodccinc.com/gallery.htm). They did a great job.
