View Full Version : What Part of Canada are RFDers from?

Bored, and just curious....maybe Ryan or Derek know the exact numbers, but I'm curious as to where the majority of RFDers are from....I know there's a lot on Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto, but where else? Poll will only allow for 10 options, so I can't go into too much detail, but I'll put in what I can think of...if I miss your town, my apologies.

I don't see why. I just want to know how the site visitors split up. I'm sure Toronto area has the most, since it has the highest population, with MTL and VCR coming in next. Toronto's not the centre of the universe any more than all Quebecers want to split up the country. Its all nonsense.

Intertesting..

I remembered Ryan posted once that there's no way to find out specifically where members come from...the traffic on RFD from Ontario is less than 40% and urban more than rural....

Off topic, sports, motor vehicles, hot deals and the BST forums all seem to be mostly people from the GTA. I would assume the other forums are the same but I don't go into them enough to know.

You linked to it, and unless you meant the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory north of Victoria, British Columbia, nothing else in Canada is listed there.

Doesn't Toronto have like 10% of all Canada in it alone? That's probably why so many people are from Ontario on RFD.

Here ya go, folks, RFD stats from DomainTools.com:
http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/1259/88pu1.jpg
As you can see, 'Toronto' is Toronto proper and not 'GTA'.

What's interesting is that while the GTA's Mississauga(pop.668,500) & Markham(pop.262,000) seem to have a lot of RFDers, Brampton(pop.433,000) does not. And when you consider places like Calgary(pop.990,000), Ottawa(pop.812,000), Winnipeg(pop.633,000), Hamilton(pop.505,000), Surrey(pop.394,000) and London(pop.352,000) all have significantly higher populations than Markham, that does seem odd. Until you look at the demographics...

Why would people of India be interested in RFD in the first place?

RenegadeX

Why would people of India be interested in RFD in the first place?I would suspect because:

- a) there is a large Indian population in Canada, and perhaps when some Indian RFDers go back home for a visit, out of habit, they check in on RFD

- b) Indians typically like deals. Perhaps it comes up in their websearches and they can't resist visiting? Perhaps they're checking Canadian pricing so when relatives visit from Canada or when they go to Canada they know how item's pricing compares.

- c) something else?

I do find a bit on here useful. Buying anything for the GF, it's usually from Canada. So it's nice to have an idea on the good/bad places to buy things. I actually started reading after I ordered and found out an online shop was crap. The google searches led me here. :)

Large is relative. Probably only about 2 or 3% of the total population of Canada.

DomainTools.com stats as of when? 2008? October?Sorry, am not sure - I took the screenshot today so assume it is relatively current.
Pardon my ignorance, but what demographic is common in Markham and Miss?- The 2006 census indicated that (in subsequent rank order) :
- 34.6% of Markham's population (~262,000) was white, 34.2% Chinese and 17.2% South Asian (that's Indian, Pakistani, etc).
- 50.6% of Mississauga's population (~668,500) was white, 20.2% South Asian, and 6.9% Chinese

Hi, can someone tell me the other parts of Toronto names? Like the GTA would be the north side right?GTA = Greater Toronto Area, which includes the neighbouring regions of Durham, Halton, Peel and York. Here's a map:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/7228/mapaz5.gif
It's a large area, Burlington is 60km west, Clarington is 80km east, and Georgina is 80km north, and it's densely populated all the way along the lake from Burlington to Oshawa, Brampton, Vaughan & Markham, and then up the Yonge St corridor from downtown Toronto to Newmarket in the north.

Large is relative. Probably only about 2 or 3% of the total population of Canada.Perhaps. Hard to say as it's usually broken down as 'South Asian', in which case it's 4% .. but who's counting? ;)
25% of the Canadian total South Asian population lives in Mississauga, Brampton and Markham alone, and another 25% live elsewhere in the GTA.

Make-up of Canada's visible minority population (chart from Wiki) :

Source: too many links to post, but I used the Wikipedia pages for each of the relevant towns/cities/GTA/country's demographics- all of which referenced various Stats Can pages, and a calculator. I verified the Wiki info on Stats Can before posting.

Still I should have stated that my source was the various Wikipedia pages for the relevant towns/cities/GTA/country - all of which sourced various Stats Can pages.. and that I verified those individually before posting.

It's the "1% effect" at work! I.e. even if 1% of India's population visited RFD, it's still 10 million people! That's like twice the population of the GTA...

I'd go American....the attitude is right. The names were more for other people looking at the poll, not the voters. GJ thinking it over though.

It's not 1% of India, it's 1% of visitors to RFD. If RFD gets 100 visitors a day, 1 of them live in India.
