View Full Version : If you could go back in time...

If you could go back in time to absolutely any point in history, either remote history or ancient...what point would you choose?

Yes you can choose multiples...but put your top first.

Obviously my top choice would be to visit Thermopylae at the battle of the 300 Spartans to see it as it actually was.

Others would be to see the pyramids being built, and also to see the neolithic period along with the end of the last ice age.

There are a lot of variables to consider...

When I go back in time (within my lifetime), can I look the same as I did at the time, but have the knowledge I have now and do/say different things to change the outcome? If so, there are a lot of things that would happen differently (more sex with more girls for instance, win contests, lotteries, 'discover things', 'invent things', etc...).

Anyway, one thing I would do is bring my camcorder to the time of jesus to prove that he was nothing but the world's most successful magician using the banner 'son of god' or prove that he was actually another time traveller.

another time to go to would be prehistoric times to witness dinosaurs with my own eyes. Looking at the T-Rex skulls in person is amazing, but to actually see one alive would be infinitely cool (even if one of them ate me, I would be fine with that as long as I actually saw a live one before I died).

60 seconds before the big bang and 60 seconds after... just to know for sure...

I would go back and stop the John Lennon murder...

There are many more, but oh well...

This is a tough one...

(1) 1960's -- Aside from the great music (particularly the Beatles) and the Vietnam War (and the anti-war movement), a lot of changes happened that have changed the way we live.

* The Civil Rights movement was in full swing with Martin Luther King, Jr and Malcolm X at the forefront and their eventual assassination
* The Women's Rights movement and the second wave of feminism was also underway
* The Stonewall Riots, the rise of the Gay Rights movement, and the decriminalization of homosexuality in Canada
* Massive immigration reforms in both the US and Canada allowing non-whites to immigrate (a lot of us probably would be thankful for this)
* The Sexual Revolution where having pre-marital sex became widely accepted (also the time when the FDA approved the birth control pill)
* The Quiet Revolution in Quebec and the rise of the sovereignty movement
* The Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union was at its height

(2) The Renaissance in Europe for similar reasons (lots of changes) -- protestant reformation, the rise of humanism and secularism, and of course, unbelievable art.

Some things that would be a BENEFIT to me if time could be turned back:

School/Career Choices

For my own curiosity, I would go meet with Jesus and Buddha.

It is probably not a good idea to change any major events in the past so I will avoid doing that.

+1. I would have studied harder to get better grades. I should have concentrated more time on school than "extracurricular" activities.

Also, I shouldn't have invested in Enron. I want to be back in time, before that company's crash.

Nope, it would be completely heroic. Remember, 24 came out right after 9/11 so I could be all Jack Bauer before anyone knew who that was. I'm talking about calling the motels that the terrorists were in the night before 9/11 and letting them know that there were some very bad men in there.

I'm talking about reaching out the the FBI and letting them know in secret that they better keep an eye out for boxcutters going through security at Logan and Newark airports.

Apparently the CIA gave reports to Bush in August before the attacks and he didn't do anything. This was in Fahrenheit 911 and was later confirmed in a news article. So the attacks would of happened despite they knew about it. Also Bush didn't want to capture Bin Laden rather go after Husein.

I would've told the FBI agent in a remote outpost like Boston or Miami(areas that the terrorists were in, in the months leading up to the attacks). I would've told the Maryland State Trooper that pulled over a carload of the terrorists that were en route from Florida to New Jersey and Maine on that weekend before 9/11. I would've tipped off the TSA agents at the airport, the cashiers at the Wal-Mart in Maine that saw some of the terrorists on the early, early morning hours of 9/11. In essence, I would've leveraged the power of the common man and woman, and working levels of agencies, to take down the terrorists instead of that of the highest levels of gov't leadership.

Actually, that's my theory of the 'virgin birth'.

Mary had a 'special friend' that her hubby didn't know about and got pregnant by the 'special friend'.

She and hubby never 'went all the way', so she had to think up something quick and made up the 'virgin birth' scam.

Her hubby must have been the biggest sap in human history to believe that nonsense.

Well, the first one anyway...

Except that Joseph also had a virgin birth. Not to mention the many previous gods and demigods and prophets that all had virgin births. It is a commonly repeated story in history.

I'd like to go back when I was young, not because I would like to do things over, but because I could have massive fun screwing with everybody and everything. Obviously I could be very rich because I know stuff. Going back to a time which I really don't know anything about (nobody really knows old history because the books are only written by those who dominated and are glorified) because it has no meaning to me personally.
