How do I keep Voles out of my yard this winter?

So I moved into a home this spring, and once the thaw hit, it was obvious that my lawn had been invaded by voles during the winter...burrow trail, dead grass everywhere.

I have spent lots of time and effort restoring my lawn, and in one short season, it looks pretty darn good.

My understanding is that voles only invade once the late fall/early winter conditions appear. Are there any techniques/advice that I can use to keep them away?

I do own a dog, and I hear that should help, and I don't want to drop coyote urine in my yard, because my pooch will keep peeing on it once she gets a whiff.
