Is anyone on rfd forums a Computer Programmer or currently taking Computer Programming? I am a recent university graduate with a degree in English but would like to return to college and take Computer Programming. For those of you that have taken it, is it difficult to find work placement? Sheridan does not have a co-op program so I am worried that it will make things difficult for me. Thank you ahead for all the replies.

College computer programs are crash courses in programming. They teach you the basics, but do not go into the nuances of computer science - especially theory, algorithms, patterns and practices.
Thus far, every college programmer I've met, except one (has degree), has been a general disappointment.
Saying that, these college programmers were hired by the company I work at ... so I guess the programs do have some value.
If you do take a college programming course, please spend some time continually upgrading your skills and learning the finer aspects of computer programming. You'll make the lives of your fellow co-workers much easier :cheesygri

Thanks coolspot
I just got off the phone with a representative from Sheridan. She claims that the hiring rate for students who take Computer Programming is close to 100%. But there is no co-op. Why? I dont know. How am I suppose to get any experience if no one will hire you without some experience.
What I am worried the most about is when I graduate (considering things dont change), my resume will look like this:
Name: Yorker 86
Education: University (English), College (Computer Programming)
Work Experience: Security Guard, Security Guard, Retail
Employers look for work experience and I wont have that.

Seneca has a co-op option for programming.

I don't know how good it is because I haven't taken it personally but a friend of mine has and graduated but he decided to go back to school for something else because he didn't like programming after his experience in co-op.
