Future Shop had their 4870 on sale for $254 (from $333.99) 2 weeks ago. I didn't know it was a good price at the time and let it pass. You should check there often in case it goes back on sale. Or if your PSU can handle it, they've got their GTX 260s on sale RIGHT NOW (they require 36Amps on 12Volts and use 300Watts during peak usage...you're looking at a $100+ PSU).

In early 2009, DirectX 11 compatible cards will be coming out and will drive down the price of DirectX 10 cards, like the 4870...

Alot of people are very misinformed
the GTX 260 and 280 BOTH use less power then the 4870 both at load, and at idle, check out hardocp review for the 4800 series

bananaX, check out these graphs:
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/10103-evga-geforce-gtx-260-core-216-216-sp-superclocked-edition-review-19.html
At Load:
4870 = 296W
GTX 260 = 297W
GTX 260 Core 216 = 321W
GTX 280 = 361W

How many Amps does the 4870 require at 12V? I stand by what I said...the GTX 260 requires 36Amps and the GTX 280 requires 40Amps. For current gen cards, you need a 650W PSU to run one high-end Nvidia, while you can get away with running a high-end ATI on less than that.

hausner, check out this cool hierarchy chart:

The best price I can find you is on the Asus 4870:

http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10530BD3244&vpn=EAH4870/HTDI/512M/A&manufacture=ASUS

Because it`s over $300 you get free shipping ($10 value). And you only have to pay GST if you`re outside of B.C. (which is a savings of $24.53 if you`re in Ontario). So...$306.60 X 1.05 (GST) = $321.93. Then subtract $30 for the mail in rebate = GRAND TOTAL of $291.93
This is the plain version, though...only 512MB ram and not over-clocked.
(actually, the Diamond version was also $292 grand total without a mail-in-rebate, but the price went up today)
(don`t forget the FS sale of $254 was $287.02 after GST + PST...so the $291.93 is only $5 more)

EDIT: The Gigabyte is also an okay price...$303.23 X 1.05 (GST) = $318.39 minus $25 for mail-in-rebate= $293.39 (grand total)

http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11830BD3049&vpn=GV-R487-512H-B&manufacture=GIGABYTE

EDIT: The grand totals I provided do not include the cost of envelope, stamps, or getting ripped off by the rebate people.
