FS : Core 2 Duo E8400 retail boxed. Bought new. It's 3 weeks old. It's a REALLY nice chip. Overclock to 4.2ghz with 1.29v. 4ghz with only 1.23v. The cpu have never seen higher than 1.3v. Low "VID" (1.2125v).
***overclock done with a Biostar Tpower P45 and proper air cooling, YMMV***

Price : 170$ Shipped Canada Post Expedited (QC, ON)
Heatware : see signature
Trade : might consider a Q9450/Q9550 + $$$ (need quad core cpu for F@H)
Thanks

Nice chip, but running stress test for 4 minutes does not = stable...

Nice chip, but running stress test for 4 minutes does not = stable...
if that is not stable for you get a default clocked chip then.
I have been oc cpus since p2 233 and most of the time if it runs thru a couple minutes of stress test it is stable enough for normal use.
You can always drop it a few mhz if problems occur later on -
or like i said go buy a faster clocked cpu and pay way more.
What you think intel and amd do ? they press a million chips and sell better ones at higher clock and worse ones at lower - they do not make a batch of 2ghz and 2.1ghz 3ghz 3.1ghz 3.3ghz etc....so basically pretty much every chip is factory overclocked :D
and what`s the deal with these vid card companies selling OC versions of their cards - that is a total scam - overclocking is a free bonus of buying quality hardware - not something you should be charged for. ( that`s my opinion anyway hey but at least they do not hide it like cpu manufacturers.. hehe )

I think your temp isn't calibrated. It should be 10C cooler.
I believe you need to put -5C in the Tjunction max offset in settings.
Check your temps with RealTemp you'll see what I mean
Good chip. I run my E8400 at 4050mhz at 1.30v

Is this a joke?
no joke - why?
speaking from 10+ years of experience of overclocking everything that has mhz ratings. lol i think my computers were overclocked long before OC became mainstream as i often had a hard time finding data on internet regarding OC . Now there are about a million overclocking sites ......
which part of the message is a joke to you? plz elaborate

I have OCed for years and when I first started there was very little as far as software for testing stability. I would run for months on end on an OC with no real idea if it was stable. Now with Prime 95, OCCT, Orthos, Linpack,LinX,IntelBurn Test a few minutes is not a really great indication of stability. All that being said I know Zhy quite well and I know he is not BSing.
If you think you are a few minutes stable and that is good enough try 20-40 loops of IntelBurn Test. Pounds a proc harder than anything I have ever seen and source code is what Intel bins with.

see that`s the confusing thing i now have an opteron 2ghz running @ high 2.9X something (think 59c full load ) and it fails prime after about 3 minutes yet i play games watch movies and run my pc 24/7 - restart basically once a week and have never ever had any problems with running daily tasks ( movies games surfing tv etc etc ) Never froze on me or gave me da blue screen - yet it fails prime 95.. This is why i conclude that stability tests are in fact good indicator of stability - but also an overkill.
i also noticed that memory is usually to blame for the test failures not the cpu itself - back in the days ram could be pushed hard ! now im lucky to get 10-20% more oc on my OCZ chips.... and i refuse to drop the timings

Thanks this is a GOLDEN cpu
runs under 1.39 v @ 4.4mhz and can get it stable @ 4.6 @ 1.45 v in all games prime ect.
:)
