Hi,
I got a speeding ticket, but I'm not the owner of the car.
Will it effect the insurance of the owner's car?
In the future, if I have my own car, will it affect my insurance?
I live in Vancouver, BC
Thanks for your help.

how long will the speeding ticket affect my insurance rate.
how much will the speeding ticket affect my insurance rate.
I mean is there a formula to these things?
I'm having second thoughts about driving now.

In ontario, speeding tickets stay on your record for 3 years, as do any convictions. some insurance companies charge nothing for 1, some maybe a 5% surcharge, or some won't give a conviction free discount. If you have more, then that increases the surcharge. But then again, that all depends on who your insurer is...

Seriously why would you have second thoughts about driving? It's only a single speeding ticket, it's not really going to be a big deal unless you make a habit of getting them ;).
Since you don't currently have a car why not just call your local ICBC branch and ask them what a single speeding ticket will do to your rates when you finally get yourself a car and your own insurance.

You say that like it's a bad thing ;). I went from BC to Ontario back in 94(23 at the time) and I went from $900/year on my 86 prelude to $2400-3600 for half the coverage here in Ontario.

Well, the speeding ticket and the insurance is just part of the reason that's causing me to think about driving.
Another major reason is of course with the gas prices skyrocketing.
To rant for a little, I got 2 speeding tickets and they were both speed traps. Those speed traps were totally unfair!! Everybody goes at the same speed and you just hope they wont stop you.
