I've got a few quotes for maintenance work on a 2002 Civic and I just want to know if it's comparable to other shops.

The work in question is t-belt + water pump and also a transmission flush (not just changing fluid but flush).

I've got quotes from a few dealerships and 1 private garage. The reason for dealerships is that I need the car to get to and from work and all the dealerships I've called are willing to provide me with a rental for the duration of the work free of charge, only need to pay for the gas.

If I'm to go to a private garage I will need for it to be open and able to complete the work on a Saturday, where I can drop off and pick up on Saturday. Or be somewhere close to where I work, Finch/Kennedy.

The Honda dealerships I have called are: Midtown (close to where I live), Roadsport, and Parkway. If anyone can provide any feedback on these dealerships that would be great.

Prices are around $500-600 for t-belt + water pump.
Roadsport Honda was the only one that offers ATF flush at $180.

Thanks

Sounds about right. You seem to have criteria that needs to be met, that seems to limit your options and you are shopping around.

I just recently got a quote for another RFD'er from my Honda Lic Tech who owns his own garage. He quoted $450 parts and labour. As for the complete tranny flush, he doesn't have the equipment to perform the flush. Therefore what I usually do is get 4 litre changed now and when I come back for another oil change, I drop another 4 litres of tranny fluid. 4 litres of Honda ATF approx $16 + $20 labour.

No. David I only met approx 2 years ago. My personal mechanic is in Brampton and I've been taking all my cars (Honda's, Acura, Mazda and Toyota) to him since my first Honda in 1991. My mechanic worked for Number 7 Honda and Dalt's b4 opening his own shop.

Does this model Civic not have a trans cooler (either built into the rad or otherwise)? If it does have one it's simple enough to just remove the return line from the cooler and have the transmission "autoflush" itself.

Sorry but I'm not a mechanic, so I couldn't answer that. However, I erred on the quote for the civic. For Timing Belt and Water Pump (all OEM), the price is from $350 - $400, not $450 like I quoted earlier.

Ok. I thought you had referred David before. I have known him for over 20 years, and he has always been fair to me to deal with.

I still refer David to anyone who needs service or advice but don't want to travel outside the Toronto Core area. Alternatively, I refer my honda Tech in Brampton for others!!! Both are excellent mechanics!!

Thanks for all the replies.

I guess I'll either pick one of the dealerships or lower my criteria.
