I am heading to Lexington,Ky on Oct 11 for one week..I can cross at Detroit or Niagara Falls/Buffalo (I really like crossing at Rainbow Bridge..no trucks)
Google maps says that the Niagara Falls route is about 70k longer but I wonder if it would be worth it to avoid crossing at Detroit. Is it a nice drive south of Lake Erie on I90 vs I 75??
Any comments are appreciated.

Google maps was off by around 8 km the last time I mapped out directions on a drive of just over 100k. With such a small difference I think it would be difficult to know for sure unless you had driven both routes and read the odometer.

I like the Detroit route as it is essentially one road all the way from Toronto...and very driveable in one day.
I never have a problem crossing at the Ambassador bridge in Detroit. Normally I cross just as fast or faster than Rainbow or Queenston....
No truck issues at Ambassador...you just follow the car lanes.

from someone who travels to Lexington at least 2 times per year (my mother lives there), save yourself the trouble and cross at Detroit/Windsor.
it is at least 2 hours faster than going through NY, PA, OH.
Ohio is HUGE and it takes forever to cross and it's boring!
the drive from Detriot is super easy, take 75 south all the way. it's not really exciting and there is not lots to see from Toledo - Cincy, but it's def easier and much more traveller friendly (lots of rest stops/restaurants/malls).
i travel alone most of the time and make frequent stops during the last half of the trip and it takes me about 9.5 hours from Hamilton.
I have never experienced a major delay crossing at the Ambassador Bridge, like there is EVERY weekend at NF/Fort Erie.
if you are crossing on a holiday tho, be prepared to wait a bit.

Also..do you have any suggestions for family friendly restaurants?..I am taking my 11 yr old daughter on a horse theme trip(she rides) so I will be looking for non-fast food reasonable prices...sub-way is our back up as we both enjoy it..staying 5 nights in Lexington...
