Need tire/rim info

I'm in search of winter or all season tires and/or rims for my 2000 gmc sonoma small pick up but I don't know what these numbers mean P235/55 R16
If I'm looking for rims and tires, which of these numbers is rim size/ bolt patern? Also I know I have 16" rims but do I have to buy 16" tires?
