So my girlfriend has been using an Eddie Bauer backpack for the last 8 years that she picked up at the time from Target down in the states for $50. She started having some small problems with it, a couple rips and a broken zipper, so we started looking for a new bag.

We went to Eddie Bauer the other day to look at what they had, since she's been happy with hers and she saw one that she really liked priced at $119. When the girl came over to help us out, she mentioned that they have a lifetime warranty, so we asked if her old one would be covered, and she said yes.

Today, we went to another store closer to us and brought her old backpack in. Sure enough, the lady took the backpack and said "yep, you can go look at the new backpacks while I look up the value of this one." She came back a few minutes later and said "it's an older one and I can't find the value, so I'll just have to estimate it: I guess it's somewhere between these two models [pointing to the $69 and $89 models], so you can take either of those." We said that she wanted the $119 one, so the lady told us we'd have to pay the difference.

At the end, we walked out of the store with the $119 pack for $32. There were no questions, no paperwork, NOTHING....just a simple swap on an EIGHT YEAR OLD BACKPACK that had pretty minor flaws given it's age and use (4 years of highschool and university).

I was definitely surprised with the quality of their warranty, which is apparently offered on all of their products, so I'm sure I'll stop in there more often while I'm in the mall. =)

I find EB to be a pretty credible store. I use to shop there exclusively in the past and have had only one so-so experience. Overall, still a great store.

The backpacks and their really neat gadgets are great...Clothing wise I think they have gone downhill, there stuff is horrible, makes you look like a hillbilly imho....They haven't kept up with the times, probably a reason why they closed 100's of stores recently

This is why I don't shop there anymore. At one time the quality and style used to be really good. I think they've changed the market to whom they are catering to. They're still better than most for their guarantees as the OP has found.

Yup, everything has a lifetime warranty there.

That's why I jumped on the $14 dollar umbrellas when it went on sale. Not the normal collapsable ones, but these were auto up and close, and it had vents on top, so it doesn't flip over (as much) like others do. Like the ones for golf.

I must have had like 4-5 umbrellas by now that are broken or string came apart. Each of those were cheap, like $5-8, but multiply that by 4 or 5? That's already more than $14.

$14 Eddie B. umbrella, lifetime warranty. DONE.

Yea I agree, 5 years ago, alot of people was wearing it in high school and it was all the rage. Then they decided to change their demographic towards middle age men. I guess they didnt want to turn in to a Timberland part 2.

I have a similar story:

I bought an EB Ridgeline parka many many years ago. Wore the hell out of it for about 4 or 6 winters. Then, the zipper got messed up. I took it in and they told me they'd replace it for free. When I went to pick up my parka, they had replaced the nice nylon zipper with an awful metal one. I showed the manager what they did and he said "that's unacceptable. Go get yourself a new parka off the rack."

Wore that one for another 6 or 8 winters.

They stopped making that model when the second parka finally wore out, so I've been wearing other winter coats since then, but every winter I go back into EB to see if they've gone back to that old, 3/4 length down parka so I can buy another one.

Oh my God seriously? I bought an EB backpack a few years ago, then bought a new one (from a different store). And it wasn't even because it broke or anything, I just wanted something flatter and in a different colour. Hmmm... I wonder if I can dig the old one out (assuming it hasn't been thrown out or anything) for a future purchase. Thanks for the head's up OP! :)
