Address changes - Ownership and License

Can someone fill me in on how you change your address. Here is my concern

We move out of our house end of October and don't get our new home in Grimsby until March 31st. Interim period we are going to travel extensively and when back in Toronto area will stay at Hotel suite near the airport.

If I open a mailbox address in Grimsby to collect my mail for the 3 months we are away is this an acceptable address for license and ownership purposes. If it says suite xxx they probably think its a condo but maybe legally you are required to use an address you actually reside at.

My other problem is I also need to renew my plates and the expiry is while we are away. If I try to renew now I will be charged the GTA $60.00 tax. Also if I change my address how long before I get my new ownership form? The only relative I have in Ontario will be away for the winter as well.

If I were you I would get the mail forwarding service from Canada Post and then get a mail box for 3 months onear the airport and have all the mail forwarded from your current address to the mail box you rented...the mail box service from who you rent can keep your mail for prolong period if your away for a lengthy time...so you can check your mail whenever your back and once you move to your new house then you can get your address permanently changed

I am not sure how much it is to rent mailbox, but I think mail forwarding is around 35 for 3 months

I might just as well use the mailbox address? I will have post office forward my mail anyway to catch stuff I don't get to give an address for, but that doesn't comply with providing a current address and why should I pay the $60.00 tax if I no longer reside in GTA.

I guess what I need to know is has anyone used a mailbox for this purpose and would Ont motor vehicle office even know it was a mailbox?

Your best bet is to call the MTO and ask.
