Hello,

This could be a potential hot deal.

I got a quote from Simply for $740 on Dunlop Graspic DS2 225/50/R17. Today I went to Sam's and saw the same tire for $148 each. $10 for install, align, etc. on each tire. So basically $632. I assume it should be even cheaper if you are going for a smaller size.

What do you guys think of this deal guys? Also is this a good winter tire compare to Hankook w300 and Gislaved Nordfrost 5?

PS. Same tire is $142 south of the border for Sam's club. So only $6 dollar cheaper than Canadian Sam's club.

The Graspic's have received ok reviews... but the Michellin X-ice 2's at Costco with the $60 off coupon are a better deal. The X-ice 2 lasts 70% longer...

I used Graspics2 for 2 winters, they are alright.
Just don't drive like summer even though you have winters tires on.

quote from APA. It's apparently one of the top picks.

Dunlop Graspic DS2

Dunlop Graspic DS2 is the cheapest tire in the Top Picks category. It proves to be quiet because of its flexible sidewalls, but also stays precise in corners thanks to its lengthy longitudinal bands. Its deep tread delivers good grip in deep snow and slush.

You won't go wrong with either of them. The only plus of the X-Ice 2 is that it might last 5 seasons versus 3 seasons with the Graspic; for example. The X-Ice 2 hasn't been reviewed yet, but I'm sure the performance is on par or better than the Graspic.

DS2 is alright, but I wouldn't recommend it for Toronto winter conditions. If you read some reviews you'll find it's more suited for snow conditions than wet/dry/slushy roads...

That can be said for just about any q-rated tire.

I've had them on for two winters in 225/45-17 sizing (picked 'em up for $119 each from Sams - two years ago obviously). They're great in the snow/slush, not so hot on the regular pavement - but as a previous poster mentioned, they aren't rated as regular summer tires (pretty sure they are M&S rated). I find the dry cornering horrible, but I'm running staggered 235/40-19 \ 265/35-19 in the summer - so big difference in profile as well.

I'd call 'em a good buy, if you aren't looking for "performance" handling in the winter...
