Just looking around Future Shop's site, and it seems they have some good deals on TV. Here are some examples.

Sharp Aquos 1080p 46" (LC46D82U) - $1599
Sharp Aquos 1080p 46" (LC46D64U) - $1399
Sharp Aquos 1080p 52" (LC52D64U) - $1699
Toshiba Regza 52" 1080p (52RV530U) - $1749

Would the Toshiba be worth the $50 more to avoid any chances of getting into banding issues with the Sharp?

Also, BB has them all for more, so a PM there is likely as well.

For what it's worth, Visions is selling the very same Regza for 1597. You could always attempt a price match.

It may work, it may not -- but I suspect that after the whole Pioneer Kuro PM event that went on 2 weeks ago, you should be able to find a couple managers willing to do a PM for you.

Definitely a great deal even with the package deal home theater. I paid 1999$ for that tv set and home theater some 4 months ago. Now you get a 360 with it for 300$ less!

I may have better luck getting this local place, Joyce and Sweener, to PM future shop, as they are selling it for $2100. I have bought a lot of things of them in the past, washer/dryer, fridge, stove, etc, and they pretty well always PM without ANY hassle.

Second, what is the whole 60hz vs 120hz? How do I know which one is better for me?

As far as I know, 120hz is suppose to provide a smoother picture by artificially increasing the frame rate. So, as an analogy, imagine the smoothness of a picture book with 120 pages vs the same picture book with only 60 pages. It makes the most difference if you watch alot of fast paced sports in high def, watch action movies with alot of fast movement or play high-end video games.

My understanding is that this was last year's big feature in LCD TV technology (it set a high end TV apart from an average TV).

Coming up this fall, look for 120hz to be the standard and LED technology to set the new high end LCD TV's apart from the average.

Hope this helps.

What was the PM with the Pioneer Kuro?

Visions was selling the Kuro for 1388 (and later on for 1287). Futureshop was selling it for $2000 (i think). Maybe a bit cheaper.

Either way, a lot of places in Ontario said they wouldn't match Visions because they are in the West and purchasing the TV online wasn't an option. Visions' deal was in-store only.

Anyways, long story short -- they ended up doing the PM for a lot of people anyways, even though there isn't a local Visions in Ontario. If you live near a Visions, then disregard everything I said because the only "issue" was with people who live here in Central/Eastern Canada.

Here's the problem with 120hz...

Some people LOVE it...some people HATE it. It smooths out all the shows you watch to the point where some people have complained that it ruins the "cinematic" viewpoint. Other people like myself find i wanna squeeze every single possible edge of smoothness as much as possible (what can i say i'm a gamer too)

If you don't know what i'm talking about think about it this way...you're used to bouncing a basketball at a certain rate. All of a sudden you're given a new ball which bounces twice as fast. Are you going to like it? Depends. I popped in Star wars Episode 1 2 3 into my 120hz samsung and good god the terrible acting was MAGNIFIED by 10 fold on 120hz lol. Stuff you didn't see before you CLEARLY see at 120hz. On the other hand, starship battles never looked so much out of a computer game on the big screen before so i enjoyed that aspect.

:arrowu:

See I don't get that at all, but I also don't have a 120hz TV. How can you see stuff that wasn't there before, when it's not there to begin with. All HD movies run at 24fps, so it's just multiplied by a little more than 5 times, but it's the same stuff, no new information is displayed.
