Can this be used with a PS3 via the USB adapter?I can't comment on this particular model, but I have another RF wireless keyboard that works fine with the PS3 through the USB.

Which one do you have? Does it have a built-in trackball?

I find this very appealing (provided it works reliably)..

Is it matter if the receiver is behind the table or there should not nothing in-between receiver and keyboard ? What about the battery life? It is almost a year I didnt change batteries(two batteries) with my current keyboard, but it sucks in distance.

I find this very appealing (provided it works reliably)..I can't remember the brand off hand as I've had it for a while. Mine doesn't have a trackball. It has an analog stick that is used to control the mouse. It works great with the PS3's web browser.

It "shouldn't" matter, as this keyboard uses RF, not IR. infrared is what your remote controls use, needs line of sight, etc. Radio Frequency goes through floors and everything (of course assuming the RF signal is strong enough).

Its why the Harmony 890 remote kicks butt.

Do they ship to Canada? If so how much and by what method?

Update: Looks like according to their website they ship from Hong Kong to anywhere including Canada via EMS.

Is that a power button right underneath the track ball?

Green_Star
Sep 26th, 2008, 10:30 AM
Does it comes with battery charger or mouse holder which charges mouse batteries?

My current microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse comes with receiver cum charger for mouse. Keyboard batteries lasting more than a year now and mouse comes around 3-5 days depending on usage, so usually I put it in holder/charger so that I never run out of power in mouse.

Haha I think you're right.. what a idiotic place to put a power button, if so..

Where are the mouse buttons for the trackball? Do you click on the ball itself to left-click?

Nope, there should be no tax. They usually write gift on the package.

I question the quality of some the items they carry, but then again...you get what you pay for.

They are fairly hassle free when it comes to issues, they have processes in place for complaints and warranty, as long as you follow them, you will be fine.

This looks like a great buy, especially since it comes with the receiver. I have been looking for something to control the laptop that is connected to my TV, all the MS Keoyboards at FactoryDirect and other places do not come with a receiver.

Thanks OP!

Is it possible to use this unit as well as a corded mouse/keyboard on the same computer?

Reason being, I have my computer setup in the same room as my tv, but different locations obviously. I don't want to carry the keyboard back and forth from the computer desk to the coffee table all the time.

Forget this, get the Logitech MediaBoard (compatible with PC & PS3 via USB) for 28$ (many places, for example CanadaComputers (http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=019009&cid=PE.979.279))

:cheesygri agree! I've got two, one for each of my HTPC's at home. Picked them up when they were on sale for $19.99/each. The range on this is pretty decent, 8-10' and no problems with reception. Only complaint is it feels very cheap but does the job of both keyboard and mouse very well.

I have this one that I bought from Newegg 2 weeks ago for $25. Good build quality and decent range.

The thing I like about it is how small it is - I don't want a big honk'n keyboard in my livingroom, which the logitech one looks like. This keyboard is only about as wide as my harmony remote is tall.

There's a toggle button on it too that switches the joystick between being a mouse and being gaming joystick, which is a neat feature.

The problem with this one is that you don't get the windows key which i find annoying sometimes (Yeah, I'm using this one right now.) Other than that it's a good keyboard. Some ppl might actually prefer this so when you play games you don't hit the windows key when you try to press on the ALT or something.

That Logitech one is 18 inches wide, the DX one is 10 - much more desirable in my mind.

Where the heck are the mouse buttons? I see the trackball, but I can't tell where the left and right mouse buttons are. Usually on these types of keyboards, they're on the left side so that you use the trackball with your right thumb and the mouse keys with your left thumb...

I have one very similar to this:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_kgsGOvJlVbk/SC1ILEm2OdI/AAAAAAAAAGo/oLNvz2kETWE/9039.jpg
You can get this for about $40. This one isn't RF, and the range is maybe 8' with line of sight needed.

And one of these as well:
http://thumbnail.image.rakuten.co.jp/@0_mall/filco/cabinet/00605285/img55493268.jpg
You can get this for about $27. This one is RF, and the range is really like 10 meters, with no line of sight. I tested this at work, and I was able to control the PC in the boardroom which is by the front entrance, all the way from the door near the back exit.

If you guys are looking for something small to use for your HTPC you can't get any smaller then this:

http://www.dealextreme.com/productimages/sku_9877_1.jpg
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9877

My co-workers both each bought one and use Media Portal and it works great. Range is not bad, 10-12' without any problems. You can sort of customize it to do exactly what you want by mapping functions from your software to the follow shortcuts:

Radio - Ctrl+A
TV - Ctrl+T
DVD - Ctrl+N
Music - Ctrl+M
Photo - Ctrl+I
Video - Ctrl+E
DVD Menu - Ctrl+V
Mute - F8
Guide - F1
Back - Backspace
Play - Ctrl+Shift+P
Pause - Ctrl+P
Stop - Ctrl+S
<< - Ctrl+Shift+D (This one was probably meant to be B, not D, but the manufacturer mixed something up)
>> - Ctrl+Shift+F
|<< - Ctrl+B
>>| - Ctrl+F
Record - Ctrl+R
Repeat - Ctrl+Shift+R

Thanks man, I bough this yesterday, very satisfying. Can some one comment on how long single pair batteries work daily usage of 3hrs?

And I am planning buy following rechargeable batteries.
http://www.ledshoppe.com/Product/hou/HE1039.htm

Normally batteries are 1.5v, above batteries are 1.2v. And I am not sure the regular batteries amps vs normal batteries. Does above batteries work with this logitech keyboard? Thanks in advance.

I bought this few months back, I use Linux, difficult to setup, atleast for me. And I think those button cells which used in this remote dried very quickly, but not sure I may have got half dried batteries. Any way it worked great in windows and that what you get for the price you pay.

ok just got it yesterday and tested it...the feel is not bad...a bit cheap for the power button, feels a little like a toy...but in terms of comfort, it's not bad...it's like a giant super nintendo controller with the left and right trigger for left and right click...

so it's not too ackward, the trackball is a metal ball but with the plastic surrounding it, feels a bit weird...the plastic surrounding it is a bit translucide, it's a light flashing for detecting the mouvement of the trackball and also to tell you if it's not in sync to the dongle...for the fun of it, i started using it and if you shake it up too much, it kind of loses the focus of the mouse, if you shake it and try to move the cursor,
also, if you turn it off and you shake it, it turns the keyboard on...
you pay for what you get.....the concept of shutting it off is great, but the "cheapy" made makes it feel like a toy...
the keys are small and overall it's ok if your fingers are not too fat...
it syncs up without pressing on the sync button..the keyboard itself is pretty light and small...

I would give it a 7.5 on 10,
pros: light, and mouse usability is not too akward, price is fair
cons: feels a bit like a toy, and material used is kind of cheap
overall at 28$ with shipping and all, i think it's a good buy, i'm pretty satisfied...
however looks like the price just changed...at the current price of $40+...it may be too much....

I wouldn't buy something like that from DX. As much as I respect that site (I've been buying since fifthunit started), their quality just doesn't cut it for something I'd use extensively every day. As the user who bought it said, it feels a bit like a toy.

There are so many other legit keyboards out there. I've never really been a fan of RF keyboards, how often are you going to need to walk around the room with it? Wireless mice yes, keyboards, I don't really see it.

I'm using this bad boy http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41NJPSWMBSL._SL500_AA280_.jpg

which I bought for $5 on clearance at FS.

I've had experience with non namebrand keyboards, and they're usually noisy and unreliable.

Then again, no keyboard is all that reliable. I spilled beer on this one and had to take it apart and wipe the circuitboards with alcolol.

The keyboard's $44.80 now. Deal's gone cold.
